Providing growth opportunities for our members drives Boys & Girls Clubs programming. We focus on holistic growth, with education, health and wellness, character and leadership at the forefront to push the boundaries of our members. Our Youth of the Year program touches most elements of these key programs.

I have written to you extensively about Youth of the Year because of its great impact on participants. Annually, our Clubs select qualifying teens (“Finalists”) to compete for the title of George Krupanski Delaware Youth of the Year, with the winner moving on to the regional (and hopefully national) competitions with other State winners. Finalists began their journey in February with an orientation session, followed by the completion of an application in which they articulate what their Club means to them and how the Clubs positively impact their lives.

Later this month, Finalists will gather in Rehoboth Beach for fun, bonding and competition that includes delivering their speeches to our judges and a panel interview. The judges select the winner based on their application, speech and interview performance. The program wraps-up on May 5th when we announce the 2022 George Krupanski Delaware Youth of the Year at The Queen in Wilmington. I hope that you will join us for this inspirational event, which personifies our mission and demonstrates the incredible potential of our members.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is honored to be the recipient of a $200,000 grant through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield’s BluePrints for the Community Grant. Funds awarded will be allocated toward a, statewide, site-base community Behavioral Health Program: Vision, Voice, and Choice. This program will allow Boys & Girls Clubs to support youth in dealing with the many adverse childhood experiences they face by directly offering mental health-related services to our youth, and support for our staff in using trauma informed approaches while working in all aspects with youth and their families.
