Metrics That Make a Difference
By: Noelle Salerno, Senior Consultant

One of the most frequent questions we receive from our clients is, “How do we measure success?” While everyone intuitively understands the importance of having a vibrant economy and society, distilling these topics into readily quantifiable metrics can be challenging. Sometimes the easiest metrics to track aren’t the most important. In other instances, it can be difficult to define the topic at hand. Should an examination of vibrancy focus on job growth, individual health, arts and culture, quality education, or all of the above? Ultimately, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Determining how to define vibrancy and what to measure is an iterative process that must reflect the unique dynamics of your community.

The Data Center provides economic and demographic data for the Detroit Regional Partnership's 11-county region. The data can be used by the business community to make better informed business decisions, students and educators interested in exploring fastest-growing occupations, or site selectors and grant writers looking for more information about the region.

The IDN has officially selected five communities to be a part of the initiative: Cleveland, OH; Corpus Christi, TX; Spokane, WA; Coweta, OK; and Pensacola, FL . Congratulations to all!!

A model for achieving housing goals takes shape in Sonoma County - After wildfires in October of 2017 destroyed more than 6,000 homes, the community has taken bold steps to construct more housing for residents. Avalanche in Action
April was another exciting month for the Avalanche. John and Noelle visited lovely Tupelo, MS to gain insight for their new workforce strategy. (Wow! We love the energy there!) Amy returned to Estes Park, CO to present their three-year progress report and reconnect with dear friends. We're thrilled to see tremendous progress since 2015, like the new Community Center, broadband expanding, the new high school tech center, and healthy job growth. Go Estes Park!

Tony and Marian kicked off the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation 's CEDS 2.0. It's remarkable to see how much Pflugerville has grown since we started working with the PCDC and Amy Madison in 2016. We enjoyed meeting new business leaders at the Business Pfirst Quarterly Breakfast, too.

Thanks to everyone who made our April so rewarding!
