Staff Pick of the Month
by Karen Joy Fowler
(PS3556.O844 B66 2022)

John Wilkes Booth is infamous and needs no introduction. But what do you know about his family? Karen Joy Fowler's novel is historical fiction that uses extensive research and a little imagination to explore the Booth family's story, how his family shaped him, and how his actions affected them.

How did John become a pro-slavery, pro-secessionist radical when his parents were progressive, highly literate, and anti-slavery? How does a family cope when one of its members commits a heinous and highly public act? The author explores these prescient questions and more in a truly engrossing and enlightening novel.
