President's Message
Alex Krone,  CPM®
President, IREM Maryland Chapter

The 439th session for the General Assembly of Maryland has officially concluded as of midnight on April 8th. While the proceedings were overshadowed by the very recent and unfortunate passing of Michael Busch, Speaker of the House of Delegates, the culmination of the 90 day session marked another year of significant legislative changes for all of Maryland. In order to better understand how some of these changes will impact us in the Property Management/Real Estate profession, IREM Maryland would like to cordially invite you to join us for breakfast and a 'legislative roundup for property managers' on Tuesday, April 16th at 9:00am. This meeting is set to be a robust summary of legislative issues and changes, concentrated for Property Managers. Some of the topics/changes to be covered include:
  • an overview of general issues this session
  • employer-related mandates
  • landlord-tenant matters
  • lead paint
  • commercial property issues
  • consumer protection legislation, and
  • utility-related bills

We are looking forward to an informative review of the new laws that matter most to us in our field, paired with a delicious, catered breakfast. Registration and further details for the event can be found in the link below. We hope to see you all in attendance this coming Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Alex Krone, CPM
2019 IREM Maryland President

Please welcome our newest Industry Partner to the IREM MD family!

Based upon decades of experience within the vertical transportation industry, Action Elevator was founded upon the belief that the elevator service industry is falling terribly short in meeting the needs of their customers. It is a feeling that is palpable in our daily discussions with new clients. Whether it is a property manager, building owner, or facility manager there exists a recurring theme of frustration with not only the condition of their equipment but also the difficulty with which they have in obtaining the elevator services that they so desperately need. Between reliable PM performance, quality repair needs and third party safety inspection reports, elevator managers and owners were searching for a "no non-sense" alternative to the industry status quo.

After an extensive career which included positions as a field mechanic, a successful private company owner, a service manager for a major elevator service provider, a QEI inspector and a consultant, John Marshall founded Action Elevator on the principles of dedicated customer service, an honest devotion to sound maintenance performance, and the belief that profit is not the bottom line. The real bottom line is quality and customer satisfaction.

Serving the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area and the Delmarva Peninsula for over 27 years, our experienced staff of elevator professionals are available to meet all of your vertical transportation needs. From Preventative maintenance contracts, to Third Party QEI inspection reports, to repair and modernizations, Action Elevator is excited about the opportunity to serve you. Call us today, and let's take ACTION!

Events Recap: Corporate Kindness Challenge Recap
On Thursday March 28th, IREM Maryland hosted our first Corporate Kindness Challenge! 51 of our members and Industry Partners joined us for a day of philanthropy. The event began with a presentation by guest speaker Doug Miller, founder and CEO of Managinc, on the importance of creating a corporate culture of kindness and social responsibility. The attendees were divided into 5 teams and each team was given $500 cash. After the presentation, we cut the teams loose in Baltimore City to do random acts of kindness and give back to the community. Some teams put together goody bags with non perishable foods, drinks and toiletries and passed them out to the city's homeless population. Others donated their $500 to some of Baltimore's non-profit organizations and volunteered their time sorting donated clothes, putting together self-care kits, and cleaning out shelters. The event was a total success, and it was amazing to see how excited everyone was to be able to spend their day making a difference in the lives of others! We truly have some of the best members in the industry and we can hardly wait to do this again next year!!
