There will be a special announcement that is important to all volunteers.

Houston Ground Angels
Management Review
March 2017
From Tony Castiglie, Vice President & Treasurer
Spring is officially here but in Houston, do we really have a Winter?  Whatever, our Volunteers continue to provide services to patients in need.  So, what are the numbers?  Thus far, 616 Missions have been run this year by 66 Volunteers serving 353 Patients and/or Companions.  As always, those we serve are always so grateful for helping in relieving some of the stress associated with going to M.D. Anderson for treatment.  And the heavy hitters are:
Charles Whitworth
Missy Callan
David La Fargue
Tony Larosa
Kathy Broussard
Paulette Blackburn
Charles Gibson
Jerry Cavanaugh
Derek King
David Niemand

The demand for our services continues to outpace our ability to satisfy those requests. As always, we do the best we can and our fulfillment rate is 88%.  We encourage all volunteers to assist us in our recruiting efforts.
The Houston Ship Channel Tour is coming up Saturday May 13th and it will be a good opportunity to visit with fellow volunteers.  Hope you can make it.
To every volunteer, "Thank You" for being part of this wonderful organization and making it the success that it is.  2017 is going to be another good year.

Did You Know...
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
Wet newspapers.  Put layers around the plants in your garden, overlapping as you go, and cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic, but they will not get through wet newspapers.
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and it helps reheat the food faster.
Expanding Frosting. When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double the amount. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount.
You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
Easy Deviled eggs. Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, to squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.
Reheat Pizza. Heat leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low And heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza.
Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Have a Wonderful Month, and Remember to Watch for
An Important Announcement later next week.

Please RSVP for the Port of Houston Boat Tour.

Thank you for all you do for Houston Ground Angels' patients!
