Celebrate Earth Day by

Planting a Tree!

Every April 22nd, stakeholders of all backgrounds come together to advance sustainability and climate action in commemoration of Earth Day. Learn more at earthday.org.

Celebrate this Earth Day by purchasing affordable trees from the Tree for Life Program. Trees are an important part of the water cycle and keep our lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and aquifers healthy. Trees provide shelter, shade and wildlife habitat. Trees also keep our storm drains clean, help decrease soil erosion, and filter contaminates.

WATCH: The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds raises funds to help protect Saskatchewan's freshwater resources.

Our Executive Director, Bridget Andrews spoke with Brenden Purdy from Global News Regina last week about the Friends of the Watershed Lottery, the Saskatchewan Tree For Life Program and more initiatives at SAW.

Friends of the Watershed Lottery

The number of tickets offered for sale is 6 000, Lottery License # RR22-0438. Total Prize Value is $18 847.00. All draws will take place at 817 High Street W, Moose Jaw Early bird draw will take place at 12:00 pm March 1, 2023 and grand prize draw will take place at 12:00 pm on May 1, 2023.

The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW) is the PWCP delivery agent in Saskatchewan. Producers will apply to the PWCP with the support of SAW’s program delivery team throughout the province. Layne Giofu

Agri-Environmental Watershed Coordinator - Southeast District

Layne was born on a mixed farm Southeast of Moose Jaw; he has a diploma in Marketing from Sask Polytech and now makes his home north of Mortlach, where he, his wife Megan and two young kids own a feedlot and small farming operation. Layne has been with SAW for four months delivering PWCP and working to put money back in the hands of producers. When Layne isn't busy working, he enjoys playing golf, hockey, and roping.

Sierra Unick

Agri-Environmental Watershed Coordinator - Northeast District

Sierra grew up with close ties to her grandparent’s cattle operation and has always been fascinated by how the systems in our natural world work. This interest led her to complete post-secondary education, including Dip. Water Conservation & Management and Ba.Sc. Environmental Management at Lakeland College. She has worked across the agri-environmental sector, including with industry, public service, and nonprofit organizations.

Sierra and her family are active outdoors year-round: snowmobiling, quadding, and camping are a few of their favourite ways to spend time together. Sierra also volunteers as a Guider with Girl Guides of Canada. In her spare time, you can find her with a creative hobbies, including crochet, cross and embroidery.
