In remembrance of Harland Eastman:

Harland held a very special place in the hearts and memories of the Springvale Public Library.

When Harland retired from the foreign service in 1979, he joined our Board of Trustees and soon thereafter became Board President in 1981. This is a position he held for nine years over his 45- year tenure here. He was also vice president for ten of those years. When he became part of our Board of Trustees, we had a very small   genealogy collection amounting to less than two shelves of books that had been donated by the Maine State Library. Expanding the genealogy and local history collection became on of his passions and we now have three rooms-the entire top floor of our original library building-filled with his collection. To acknowledge his dedication and contributions to this collection, on September 27, 2022, we dedicated the genealogy room the Harland H. Eastman Room. At the reception, Harland did what he did best - he told a story. He told the story of his history with this library, peppered with anecdotes and humor.

We are humbled to have been a part of his life.
