Casas de Luz April 2019 Newsletter
Our build season has sprung!
The weather is just starting to warm up, and so is our build season! We built 3 homes in March and are preparing for 4 more in April. Check out what we've been up to and how you can get involved this month!
Viva la Luz!
May 3 at UUFSD

Come join us at our annual Casas de Luz benefit concert! Local singer-songwriter Lee Coulter will be joining us to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and all of the work you have done in Tijuana. Join us for drinks, desserts, beautiful music, and a silent auction featuring baskets from local companies: enjoy yoga, golfing, ice cream, and more from your favorite places in SD. Don't let your friends, family, or neighbors miss it!

San Diego Rotary
Welcome home to the Mérida Barrios, González, and the Antonio González families! A huge thank you to our sponsors and building teams for contributing their time and love into each house. We completed our first 16x24 model home on the 23rd of March, complete with 2 rooms, a common room, and a bathroom. Tears were shed as these families opened the doors to their new homes. We have started building in a new community, El Ranchito, where families never believed they would be given an opportunity to begin again.

Sponsor a Family
We have 7 families sponsored, and dozens more in need of a sponsor! Create a cross-cultural relationship with a family while providing them with groceries once a month. Families are creating relationships with their sponsors and are learning about each other's daily lives.
Meet the Rodriguez Brothers
Oswaldo & Victor
The Rodriguez twins are full of energy, excitement for life, but most of all full of love and love making others smile! Their dad works as a clown in the parks on the weekends, and sometimes Oswaldo and Victor accompany him with great delight. On Children's Day in January, they helped their dad put on a show for the community at Faro de Luz. Other than making jokes and dressing up, they love playing soccer and with their baby brother, Yaír, who loves toys that make noise! You can get to know them even more AND sponsor their groceries!

False Accusations
Don Juan
After Don Gallo passed away on February 19, Don Juan stepped up to become the security guard of Faro de Luz. For 9 months he has worked hard to begin his life again after years of drug abuse. On March 27, the police arrested him for entering the community center with a key as they did not believe he worked for Faro de Luz. Pastors Amada and Gersom found him in a jail in Tijuana but Don Juan told them to not worry about paying the fine because it was extremely expensive. However, they gathered the money to pay, and Don Juan couldn't be more proud to be a security guard.
