April 2019
March was National Nutrition Month and in case you missed us on ABC 21's INsight we covered AIHS's Nutrition Programs:
Meals on Wheels/
Home Delivered Meals

Delivery takes place on scheduled routes. Delivery consists of either five (5) or seven (7) frozen meals complete with milk to meet Older Americans Act compliance with established Dietary Guidelines and meet the minimum of
33 1/3% of Recommended Dietary Allowance for nutrients.
*Diabetic and Low Sodium meals available upon request.
Thanks to the generosity of the Foellinger Foundation, Parkview Health Systems and federal funding we were able to add three additional Meals on Wheels trucks to better serve northeast Indiana!
Congregate Site Dining

Congregate nutrition services are provided at a variety of sites with many sites offering Wellness Café programs to older adults. Reservations must be made by noon a minimum of one day in advance Monday-Friday.

Restaurant Voucher

AIHS has developed and implemented on a limited basis a voucher program allowing participants to patronize participating restaurants, order from a pre-approved menu of items meeting RDA during a timeframe set by the restaurants. No reservation is required. Vouchers are accepted at 4 sites in Allen County and at Parkview Hospitals in Huntington, LaGrange, Noble and Whitley counties.
“Restaurant Vouchers address the needs of a new generation of older adults,” says Connie Benton Wolfe, President and CEO, “whose needs are unique as they desire both nutritional value and social interaction where they can still be active members of the community.”

The AIHS Restaurant Voucher program has shown significant growth as well as popularity; 79% of registered
individuals participate in the AIHS Restaurant Voucher program while only 50% of registered individuals participate in AIHS Congregate Meal programs

The popularity of our Restaurant Voucher Program created a large wait list of interested individuals. Parkview Health Systems stepped in and provided Parkview-Only Restaurant Vouchers to offset our wait list by offering individuals meals from one of the many, and delicious, Parkview Hospital Cafeterias!
