Hi KKC Members,
Spring is here! The days of beautiful weather have seen more people on the courts and in the pool. And the Covid pandemic finally seems to be receding, thanks in large part to the vaccine rollout. Santa Clara moved into the less restrictive Orange Tier during March, and, if trends continue, could move into the Yellow Tier sometime during April.
The Kona Kai staff and Board are watching for any changes in the County Health guidelines that could allow the club to ease the various Covid-related restrictions that are in place.
We hope to be able to open the locker rooms by the end of April, although likely with limited capacity. Both the Men's and Women's lockers are currently being painted to freshen them for opening.
Members' key cards may also be reactivated upon further easing, so try to locate your cards, as there are fees to replace lost cards.
Turning Kona Kai into a movie set has been delayed for a few months, while the production deals with unspecified delays - a Hollywood thing, we understand.
Planning for pool improvement continues: a Pool Renovation Committee has been formed, and they have been visiting nearby community pools, and brought in experts to inspect and make recommendations. The city and state codes have been changed over the years, and we have to figure out exactly what needs to be done.
Finally, we are sad to bid farewell to our longtime manager, Sharon Schedler, who has guided us through so many ups and downs over the years, culminating in her quick and expert leadership as Kona Kai had to quickly adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks and farewells have been pouring in from so many members who have become close with her. She'll be greatly missed. Thank you, Sharon!
The Board is working on personnel issues - Stay tuned for new staffing announcements.
We hope to see everyone at the Club,
Kona Kai Club Board of Directors
