Happy Earth Month!
Our county parks play a crucial role in supporting clean air, clean water and a thriving ecosystem. From flowing waterfalls to dense forests, these natural areas are essential to conservation efforts and the health of our environment. Earth Day is a reminder that while nature sustains us, we must work together to sustain our parks - enhancing their beauty, resilience and future.
Join us in celebrating our parks and our planet this Earth Day by donating to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. Help us reach our goal of raising $20,000 in honor of Earth Month. We are grateful that Giant Eagle has generously pledged to match the first $10,000 raised this April to help us meet our goal! Give now and double your impact!

Streams Assessments for North, South and Boyce Parks are Complete!
This past month, we reached a major milestone in our work to protect the waterways in our county parks! With the completion of streams assessments for North, South and Boyce parks, we now have a comprehensive picture of stream health across the entire park system - spanning more than 50 miles of waterways. After three years of dedicated research, we've successfully completed stream assessments across all nine Allegheny County Parks, providing essential data to guide future land use, management and restoration efforts. These studies will ensure we take the most effective actions to protect and restore our parks' natural resources. We are deeply grateful to our project partner, the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program of Allegheny County, and to our funder, the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies on behalf of the Foundation of Pennsylvania Watersheds, for making this work possible!

This project will assess the 12 acres surrounding the Natural Center, conduct a feasibility study of the existing barn structure and more. We extend our gratitude to the project funders, FedEx, North Area Environmental Council, The Public Lands Fund and Allegheny County.

Paul Riis Trail Updates
We are excited to share an important update on the Paul Riis Trail project! In 2025, the scope will focus on enhancing the Vale of Cashmere section of the Paul Riis Trail, making it more accessible and inviting for all visitors. Planned improvements to the site include the addition of approximately 1,550 feet of ADA-accessible trail, a new 3,200-square-foot asphalt parking area with designated ADA spaces, seating for rest and scenic viewing, the planting of 300 trees and interpretive signage. We are grateful to Allegheny County, our partners on this project and to the funders - the Colcom Foundation and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
