The Dragon with the Chocolate Heart
by Stephanie Burgis
Book 1: Tales from the Chocolate Heart
Aventurine is a brave young dragon ready to explore the world outside of her family's mountain cave . . . if only they'd let her leave it. Her family thinks she's too young to fly on her own, but she's determined to prove them wrong by capturing the most dangerous prey of all- a human.
But when that human tricks her into drinking enchanted hot chocolate, she's transformed into a puny human without any sharp teeth, fire breath, or claws. Still, she's the fiercest creature in these mountains--and now she's found her true passion- chocolate. All she has to do is get to the human city to find herself an apprenticeship (whatever that is) in a chocolate house (which sounds delicious), and she'll be conquering new territory in no time . . . won't she?

Snapdragon by Kat Leyh
Snap's town had a witch. At least, that's how the rumor goes. But in reality, Jacks is just a crocks-wearing, internet-savvy old lady who sells roadkill skeletons online--after doing a little ritual to put their spirits to rest. It's creepy, sure, but Snap thinks it's kind of cool, too. They make a deal: Jacks will teach Snap how to take care of the baby opossums that Snap rescued, and Snap will help Jacks with her work. But as Snap starts to get to know Jacks, she realizes that Jacks may in fact have real magic--and a connection with Snap's family's past.

"Turtle walk. Nice and slow. Here we go." Follow a family of turtles strolling through the seasons in Matt Phelan's adorable picture book, Turtle Walk. This colorful story with simple repeating verse, features our turtle friends walking through blooming meadows with bunnies, wandering along playgrounds in the summer sunshine, making their way through apple orchards and pumpkin patches in the fall. As winter comes, the turtles go up a steep hill of snow for somewhat surprising and slippery results. Readers will enjoy the watercolor-like illustrations too. Turtle Walk is a fun read to share with your toddlers and preschool age children.
