Whether you’re walking home on your daily route or headed into a new area, it’s always important to practice high awareness of your surroundings.

Be aware. Stay alert, put your phone down, walk with a purpose, notice your surroundings and make note of anyone else around you.

Be prepared. One of the best safety practices to use during the day and at night is to walk with your keys out. Instead of walking to your car, home or project site and then stopping to find your keys, you should have them ready in your hand. They can be a good weapon, if necessary.

Situational Awareness
-Be aware of your surroundings and the activity around you
-Stay in well-lit areas
-Do not allow yourself to become distracted
-Play the “what if” game
-Have a plan in mind if you need to react quickly

Trust Your Intuition
-Pay attention to and trust your instincts
-Err on the safe side
-Report and document your concerns
