The Time has Come for
Time for Three

Time for Three is coming back! This fun, exciting trio kicked off our 2016 season, and we are thrilled to host their return as Musicians-in-Residence on April 16 th and 17 th . This time, bassist Ranaan Meyer and violinists Nick Kendall and Charles Yang will be doing a number of educational and outreach events, in addition to a full-on concert. As so accurately described on their web site, Time for Three is “a group that defies any traditional genre classification, happily and infectiously. With an uncommon mix of virtuosity and showmanship, the trio performs music from Bach to Brahms and beyond…as well as playing originals and their own arrangements of everything from bluegrass and folk tunes to ingenious mash-ups of hits by the Beatles, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and more.” Check them out at www.Tf3.com .

On Tuesday, April 16 th , Time for Three rocks Orcas Center in two school assemblies, one for the elementary school and the other for middle and high school. We're thrilled that every kid in the Orcas Island School District will be able to experience this! The assemblies are being presented in partnership with the Orcas Island School District, Orcas Center, and Orcas Music Advocacy Group; we thank them all.

That evening, ( April 16th ) from 7:00pm - 8:00pm , there will be a workshop where attending musicians are invited to bring their instruments (not just violins and basses, whatever they've got!) to learn some secrets of improvisation, arrangement, some of the brilliance that makes Time for Three the special group they are. If you don’t play (or don’t want to play), you can still come and learn, but you do have to register with Tracy at (360) 376-6636 or tracy@oicmf.org . There is no charge for the workshop.

During the day on Wednesday, April 17 th , you might just catch the trio popping up around town, playing a few tunes as they warm up for their evening concert. The grand finale of their visit will be the concert , April 17th at Orcas Center at 7:30pm , tickets are available at (360) 376-2281 or www.orcascenter.org .

We are very grateful to our sponsors for this visit: Barbara Bedell, Carl de Boor, Janet Ketcham, and Slim and Mimi Sommerville.

Festival Music Education!

Exciting things are going on in the world of Music Education during the Festival this August! We are tickled that we will now be offering a Pre-Concert Talk before EVERY concert (before both the 5:30pm and 7:30pm concerts). These 30 minute “learn about tonight’s program” sessions will still be free of charge. Watch this space to discover who the speakers will be.

We are also so looking forward to the evolution of the Know the Score lectures. Inspired by the popularity of Jackie’s Concerto Chat™ last year, we decided we need more of that kind of exciting, high-powered event! So, instead of our five-time-a-season, morning-long lectures, we will be offering two truly special talks! The first, on the afternoon of Monday, August 4 th , will be a Behind the Baton lecture with legendary conductor Gerard Schwarz. Well known in this part of the world as long time Music Director of the Seattle Symphony, Maestro Schwarz has had an international career as a sought-after guest conductor, leading the most renowned orchestras throughout the world. L earn more at www.gerardschwarz.com .

And on the morning of Wednesday, August 14 th , former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Broadcaster, Writer, and Speaker Eric Friesen will be interviewing our Composer-in-Residence Kevin Puts ( www.kevinputs.com ). Who know who else might drop in for a few words with this legendary interviewer!

We are thrilled to have these two bringing us these fascinating and informative programs, and can’t wait to see you all there, and at the Pre-Concert talks, before the concert of your choice, whichever concert that might be.
We look forward to sharing more OICMF news and events with you - keep your eyes peeled for next month's Scherzo !
All the best,
