Our 24th Season
August 2021
With much excitement and anticipation, we are working on our plans for our 24th Season. We do not yet have specifics to share, but please know we are looking at many options, including both in-person and livestreamed performances. Thank you for your patience as we find the best fit for the coming season, and we WILL be bringing you intimate and beautiful chamber music performances this August! Please follow our website and future Scherzos for more details as they emerge.

Cooking with John Largess
Our first ever Celebrity Chef Cooking Zoom is coming up on Sunday, April 11, at 1:00 pm PT! You won’t want to miss Miró Quartet violist and chef extraordinaire John Largess as he entertains Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival’s online audience with a free livestream cooking class. John will teach us how to prepare that classic comfort food, Chicken Pot Pie. He’ll show us how to make its Rough Puff Pastry Crust from scratch, and he’s including a version for vegetarians.

John is an exquisite musician, and as anyone who has attended his lectures at past Orcas Island Chamber Music Festivals knows, he is also a fabulous speaker. Now you have the chance to enjoy his oratorical skills while learning to bake this classic!

John enjoys preparing sumptuous foods, especially French pastry and fine desserts. A true renaissance man, John has a background in Greek and Latin literature and graduated from Yale University with a degree in archaeology. He also studied at the Hebrew University in Israel and participated in archaeological excavations in Greece, Israel, and Jordan before returning to the viola and focusing on his chamber music career. John is a trained yoga instructor, having studied Vinyasa Power Yoga with Baron Baptiste. He also practices Kundalini, Bikram, and Astanga yoga styles, and teaches yoga in Austin, Texas, where he lives. When not standing on his head, he enjoys making his Tibetan singing bowl sing.

This is a free online event, but tickets are necessary. For tickets to Cooking with John Largess, click here.

Thank You, Professor Parker

While not a Festival-sponsored event, we’d still like to share a good news story featuring Orcas Island and one of our artists. In March, a group of Founding Board Member Catherine Pederson's young piano students had the tremendous opportunity and joy of participating in a piano masterclass taught remotely by our very own Jon Kimura Parker from his studio at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The students received both amazing instruction and true inspiration from Jackie and we are so grateful to him for sharing this with our young island players!
We look forward to sharing more OICMF news and events with you - keep your eyes peeled for next month's Scherzo!
All the best,
