Property Tax Penalty Waiver
Two weeks ago we informed you how your Board had taken action in support of a residential property tax deferment in light of the COVID-19 emergency and the financial uncertainties we are all facing.

In March the Council voted to defer real property taxes for hotels and sales taxes for other businesses for 90 days. The bill contained a lot of relief for a lot of businesses as well as for the unemployed, renters, and others.  Notably absent from the bill’s relief provisions was any relief for the District’s residential property owners.

In our letter we asked the Council to provide some relief to homeowners as it considered additional measures in the future . Click here to visit our web page and read the letter.

On April 8, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced that people who have been unable to timely pay their property taxes can request waivers from tax penalties and interest if the delay was related to the COVID-19 emergency. Those who have other causes not related to COVID-19 can file for waivers using a different form. All applications will be individually considered.

Your Ward 2 Candidate Questions are Answered!
DCCA-LCCA
Unfortunately, time ran out before we were able to address all of the questions submitted by the audience at the March 4th Ward 2 Candidate forum, hosted by DCCA and LCCA.

Directly following the event, all legible questions submitted by residents who attended the forum, were compiled in a questionnaire forwarded to the candidates. Click here to visit the webpage where we have cataloged the verbatim responses received from each of the candidates .

District Updates on COVID-19
Mayor Bowser announced that the District is extending its state of emergency order until at least May 15. At a press conference on Wednesday she said the extension is needed to continue to “flatten the curve” and reduce the number of confirmed cases in D.C. Facemask requirements were also expanded.

DC Says Goodbye to InTowner Publisher
DCCA was saddened to learn that the publisher of The InTowner newspaper, Peter Wolff, died suddenly this week. On a neighborhood message board, his colleague Bill Schultz shared the news and said "Peter loved Dupont Circle and he tirelessly served our community by publishing journalism that matters and informs."

His obituary can be found here.
Reminder: Request a Mail Ballot for the June 2 & June 16 Elections
digital_envelope_hand.jpg
As a result of COVID-19 pandemic guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other health experts, the District of Columbia’s 144 voting precincts, which contain the polling stations where voters cast their ballots, will remain closed on election days in June 2020.

Instead, the 15 early voting centers, where early voting typically occurs, will be expanded to 20 to accommodate additional voters.

The BOE strongly urges voters to request a mail-in ballot instead of voting in person for the upcoming elections, including the June 2nd Primary Election and June 16th Ward 2 Special Election.

Both of the June ballots include a vote for the Ward 2 Council seat that represents Dupont Circle. For information about how to request your ballot go to: https://www.dcboe.org/Request-Your-Ballot-by-Mail

What's for Dinner?
  • Support restaurants while practicing social distancing. Use this restaurant aggregator to find which restaurants are open for take-out, curbside pick-up, and delivery during COVID-19. To use the database to place an order, click here: https://www.diningatadistance.com...

  • Pro-tip -- call your local neighborhood restaurants - many are offering pantry items (including flour and TP) for pickup or delivery alongside prepared meals. We have seen that Mikko and Annie's are offering this feature.
