April 19, 2018
Dear Stanwich Families,

Although it feels like February, the great pictures and excitement from April student trips remind us only eight weeks remain in the academic year. (The pictures from the Grade 9 Costa Rica and the Grade 10/11 New Orleans trips look particularly warm and attractive, and I hope there is no frost in Frost Valley for the Grade 6 students).

Nonetheless we look forward to our Spring Benefit 20th Anniversary celebration next Friday, April 27 at Greenwich Country Club. The event promises to be convivial and fun with many exciting travel and enticing activity options available; nostalgic with some reflections from the past 20 years and alumni parents in attendance; and also anticipatory with glimpses of our new incarnation as part of GCDS. I really appreciate the parents who have worked all year to ensure the success of this important fundraising event. I hope you are able to join us and encourage you to rsvp on the Stanwich website. Now is also a good time to save the date of Wednesday, May 16 for the annual Spring Luncheon for all parents.

The April 30 deadline is fast approaching by which time families who wish to participate in the TMS tuition payment plan for 2018-2019 need to sign up and confirm their payment schedule via direct withdrawals.

We have been happy to see so many Stanwich students and parents participating in the Stanwich/GCDS integration events. This month, discussions and planning seem constant (to catch-up on the time lost with spring break and March's terrible weather.) More information will be available soon concerning the construction plans and timetable beginning this summer with the installation of the town water line and the preparations to the east of our current buildings for a new field and the water treatment plant.

This summer we expect that construction will begin on the West Wing project to include a new commons area on the top floor, new science and project space on the ground floor and an exciting expanded Maker Space area on the lower level. Interior renovations to the main (US) classroom building and creation of the new dining and kitchen area will begin in 2019. I am continually thankful for the numerous Stanwich trustees and friends who have contributed over the years to move the dreams for our children and our program into reality. Please stay abreast of integration, consolidation, and construction news via our website.

Congratulations to our graduating seniors on their recent college admission news. I am sure that their parents are both relieved but now more anxious than ever. Our teachers are proud. The list of admission acceptances, which I will share next month when student decisions are finalized, is as geographically broad as I can remember, with some impressively selective and very selective institutions represented.

Stanwich visual and performing arts are unusually strong. Student creativity was displayed at this month's Visual Arts Expo. Many thanks go to art teachers Jane Graham and Emily Sullivan for their talent bringing out the visual best of their pupils. Thanks to the leadership of our first-class performing arts faculty, this is also the time of year when our stage is full of musical prowess. Make sure you find time to appreciate the melodic talent of our student body at one of the upcoming musical or concert performances.

Once again, the teachers and I thank the PA leaders who contributed to a wonderful spring faculty luncheon.

Warm weather must be on the way. In the meantime, with all best wishes;

Charles Sachs
