CEO Chapter Member Warner Baxter Helps Lead the Coaches vs. Cancer Council Meeting

At the CVC Council Summit, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Coaches vs. Cancer program, which, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help us achieve our vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. In that time, ACS and the more than 6,000 college and high school coaches we partner with nationwide have raised more than $145 million for our mission, including $10 million in 2022 alone. At the Summit, we hosted more than 50 partners, including Council co-chairs Warner Baxter and Coach Lon Kruger; other legendary coaches such as Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, and Jim Calhoun; and ESPN analysts Sean Farnham and Dalen Cuff. In doing so, we were able to thank them for their unwavering support and highlight what we were able to accomplish together this past season, particularly when it comes to cancer screening.

Thanks to a collaboration between our ACS Staff and Coaches/Corporations, we launched the Set the Screen campaign, which aimed to leverage our Suits And Sneakers platform to drive greater awareness around the importance of cancer screening and addressing health equity. The results were remarkable. Not only did we engage with more than 40 coaches and CEOs, all of whom generously donated their time to film screening videos and spread the word about our mission throughout their organizations, we also educated more than 400,000 employees and raised over $330,000 to support ACS screening initiatives. In addition, we aired a new “Get Screened” PSA that helped further amplify our message and launched our screening navigation website to help individuals find the screening location closest to them.

In its first week, the site received more than 11,500 unique visitors. Meanwhile, the social campaign surrounding Set the Screen delivered 17.8 million impressions, allowing us to touch more than 415,000 lives to date.

Cancer Screening Recommendations By Age

Did you know that cancer screening guidelines are updated based on new research and changes we see in cancer statistics? For example, because studies found more people under the age of 50 were developing colorectal cancer, the recommended age to begin regular screening for people at average risk is now 45.

Because we know that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and that early detection saves lives, this could be the most important thing you do today!
