SGC Board Nominations


The Saskatchewan German Council is seeking nominations for its Board of Directors to fill three director positions at the AGM on June 10, 2023.


As an umbrella organization to over 30 member groups, the SGC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote German culture, language, customs, traditions and interests for the benefit of all Saskatchewan people. The SGC plays an active role in building provincial multiculturalism.

Consul General visits the SGC


Consul General Marc Eichhorn seized the opportunity of the inauguration of the new Honorary Consul Benedict Nussbaum in Saskatoon to also convene with the Saskatoon German Council, which serves as the overarching entity for German associations in Saskatchewan and which at the same time is a vital collaborator of the German Consulate General in all things Saskatchewan.

Inauguration of the New Honorary Consul


On March 3rd, the official inauguration of the new Honorary Consul Benedict Nussbaum (r) took place in Saskatoon, in the presence of German Consul General Marc Eichhorn (l). Honorary Consul Nussbaum will be replacing Dr. Oelck, whom we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for his work, dedication, and wonderful collaboration. Read more here

Culture & SGC Events

Author Miriam Körner reads FOX and BEAR


Please join us on May 18 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the library of Aden Bowman Collegiate, Saskatoon. Miriam Körner will read from her new book FOX and BEAR (FUCHS und BÄR). The German-English book reading is free for all, children are welcome. Just let them bring their favorite blanket and stuffed animal. German language skills not necessary to enjoy the reading.

New Immigration Story

John Michael UHRICH (1877-1951)


Did you know that Saskatchewan’s ninth Lieutenant Governor was an Ontario-born German? Saskatchewan introduced Canada’s first universal and comprehensive health care program in 1962, but did you know this same Ontario-born German laid the foundation for this program already in the 1920s. In this new immigration story Mervin Weiss tells the story of John Michael Uhrich.
