April is Stress Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about stress, its effects on mental health, and strategies for managing it. It also coincides with other mental health initiatives, such as National Counseling Awareness Month and National Autism Awareness Month.
During Stress Awareness Month, consider engaging in the following:
-
Self-Care: make sure you are eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity. Other ideas are reading, taking a bath, or going for a walk.
-
Connecting with Others: spend time with friends and family, join a support group, or reach out to a trusted friend or family member.
-
Relaxation Techniques: deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga.
-
Seeking Professional Help: if stress is significantly impacting your well-being, consider reaching out to a therapist, social worker, or counselor.
-
Taking Breaks: throughout the day to avoid burnout and allow your mind to rest.
-
Say No: say no to commitments sometimes as to avoid overcommitting and feeling overwhelmed.
-
Reframing Negative Thoughts: challenge negative thoughts and try to focus on the positive aspects of life.
