US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has stopped applying the August 2019 Public Charge Rule as of March 9th, 2021. This means that someone getting Medicaid, public housing, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can become a lawful, permanent resident of the United States. This marks a change from the previous requirements of the Public Charge Rule where people receiving such support and benefits were ineligible to become permanent US residents. Have your voice heard regarding housing issues in Broomfield!   The Broomfield Housing Advisory Committee (BHAC) is a group of Broomfield resident volunteers working in an advisory capacity to the Broomfield City Council. BHAC is tasked with working with the development community to meet the needs identified in the Housing Needs Assessment relative to creating and maintaining a diverse housing inventory.   BHAC is working on the following in 2021: Researching formation of an independent housing authority Funding/financing of housing options Communication and collaboration Ongoing monthly meetings with developers to discuss their projects and provision of affordable units or contribution of cash-in-lieu to Broomfield’s housing fund.   Please join this community conversation to ask questions or submit ideas by visiting: https://www.broomfieldvoice.com/affordablehousing.
