Volunteer Update
April 30, 2021
Dear CRC Volunteer,

This past Saturday I had the privilege of attending CRC’s 26th Annual Tea. It was beautifully done, and a dedicated group of volunteers were instrumental to helping CRC plan and implement the event.

Back in January, Zoom committee meetings began and a group of creative, hard-working women started to dream up ways to make a virtual event personal and fun.

Over the next several months, these volunteers provided staff with Zoom best practices, solicited auction items, planned and purchased “Tea Party Box” items, and began to invite their friends to join CRC at the tea.

Volunteers packed up the Tea Party Boxes. National Charity League mother-daughter teams picked up and then delivered many of those boxes to our guests around North County San Diego.

One of those boxes landed at the home of Jamie and her daughter Sienna. Sienna was the Tea’s youngest guest at age five and was excited to have a tea party with her mom. They set up their tiered display with treats from their box, turned on a Spotify playlist and joined in the Zoom call on Saturday. Near the end of the program, Sienna held up a “Hope Is” card to the computer screen, depicting what she believed Hope was. She said, "Hope is love." Sienna is learning at a young age the value of the work that CRC does and her family's desire to partner in that.

One program client put it so eloquently when describing her experience at CRC. She said that CRC gave her the gift of “recognition” (to truly see her) and allowed her to come out of hiding from herself. CRC volunteers provide love and dignity every step of the way in our mission to help others. So much of what you do is behind the scenes but every step is crucial in someone’s path to a better life.

Thank you!

Gratefully,

Sara Rosenbaum,
CRC Volunteer Manager

Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to Gail Carroll!

Congratulations Gail on being selected as the CRC April Volunteer of the Month! Gail Carroll, habitual volunteer, started donating her time to the Assistance League after moving to San Diego area over 20 years ago. In 2019 Gail’s daughter, Courtney Harmeling, volunteered Gail to work on CRC’s English Tea fundraising Committee and described her mother as a “secret weapon” in planning events and Gail has lived up to that description!

Gail has been instrumental in planning and soliciting auction items for CRC’s English Tea and 40th Anniversary Gala fundraisers. She has also fundraised for blankets and other necessities for our Holiday Baskets program and has involved her quilting group making blankets for CRC's domestic violence shelter and face covers throughout the pandemic.

Gail’s husband, Bob, is also very involved in the community with over 20 years delivering Meals On Wheels and with Senior Gleaners. CRC is so lucky that Courtney volunteered her mother and we have the support of this very community-minded family.

Truck Driver Assistant Needed on Thursdays

If you live locally, you may see the CRC truck driving around town Monday to Friday. It picks up donated produce and goods from local grocery stores and brings it back to our Food Pantry to deliver to those who utilize our services there. Our truck driver is in need of a volunteer assistant to ride with him on Thursdays to help load and unload those donations from 8am-12 pm. Must be at least 18 and able to lift 25 pounds or more. If you are interested in this ongoing position, please contact Sara at srosenbaum@crcncc.org for more details.
Want to support our Resale Stores? Become a store volunteer!

We are always looking for committed, high energy volunteers to receive donations, sort, clean and provide customer service when needed. Fill out an application here or contact Sara Rosenbaum for more information. You can also support the stores and our programs by shopping at one of our stores – giving back while also getting in some retail therapy!
Other Opportunities

We continue to have limited opportunities. However, all of our existing volunteers are hard at work keeping our programs going! Thank you! We will send out email notices as new opportunities come up.
