Big Sur Health Center

Good morning and happy spring.

That March heatwave may have convinced all Big Sur’s plants (and most of its people) that it’s suddenly summertime—but really it’s only April. We hope your spring cleaning, or spring garden-planning as the case may be, is going well.

The Health Center is delighted to welcome Dr. Sundeep Gupta, M.D. as our interim Medical Director. While Dr. Gupta is not at the Health Center full time, he has been a great addition to the team and we are thrilled to have him. We would also like to thank Dr. Margaret Simon for her two years of service to the Health Center and the Big Sur community.

The Health Center (like just about every nonprofit in Big Sur, we know!) is also looking for volunteers to join our team at the Big Sur International Marathon start line on April 26. If you are available to help out, or if you know someone else who might be, please contact Executive Director Kathie Lester at kathie@bigsurhealthcenter.org. Thank you—your help is crucial to supporting health care for all in Big Sur.

Take care,

The Big Sur Health Center Team

April Ushers in Renewal Along Big Sur’s Coastline

April is a season of renewal along the Big Sur Coast — a time to step outside, refresh daily habits, and focus on overall well-being.

At Big Sur Health Center, we believe that small, consistent choices can make a meaningful difference in both physical and mental health.

This month, we are highlighting the importance of preventive care and stress awareness — two key areas that support long-term wellness for individuals and families.

Prioritize Preventive Care

Routine checkups and health screenings are one of the most important ways to stay ahead of potential health concerns. Services such as blood pressure monitoring, cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, cancer screenings, immunizations, and skin checks help detect issues early and support peace of mind. Taking a proactive approach to health can lead to better outcomes and a higher quality of life.

Managing Stress for Better Health

Stress is a natural part of life, but ongoing stress can impact sleep, heart health, digestion, and immune function. This April, consider simple ways to support your mental and emotional well-being. Spending time outdoors, staying physically active, connecting with loved ones, and building consistent sleep routines can help reduce stress and improve resilience. Even a short daily walk can boost mood and support overall wellness.
