Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community

On View through May 2, 2027



Kaleidoscope is the second in a series of exhibitions marking FAM's Centennial, and features hundreds of artworks from our permanent collection, ranging across the globe, human history, and artistic media and movements. 


Kaleidoscope juxtaposes old favorites, new acquisitions, and rarely before seen artwork, allowing visitors to create their own visual, psychological, and intellectual meanings.

Tara Sellios | Ask Now the Beasts

On View through May 24, 2026 


Tara Sellios's photographs highlight the beauty of the grotesque. Sellios creates still-life vignettes from organic materials, including animal bones, insect specimens, and dried flowers, which she photographs using a large format camera. Printed at a grand scale, Sellios’s photographs capture the vivid details of her materials.

FESTIVAL: A Celebration of African Art at the Fitchburg Art Museum

On View through December 3, 2026 


FESTIVAL is the first in a series of exhibitions honoring FAM’s Centennial.


FESTIVAL demonstrates both the breadth of our collection and the diversity of cultures and contexts across the African continent.

FAM’s annual Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft is one of the longest-running juried exhibitions in New England. This tradition at the Fitchburg Art Museum spotlights the artists and crafters of our region by providing a museum environment for their work and connecting them with fellow creators, patrons, and art enthusiasts. The First Prize winner will have a solo exhibition alongside The 91st Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft in 2027.


Lissa Cramer, Director of the Boston University Art Galleries, will be jurying this year's 90th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft.

Art in Bloom is the Fitchburg Art Museum’s celebrated annual spring event, where interpreters transform selected artworks into floral arrangements. This year, 40 works from current exhibitions have been chosen by the Art in Bloom Committee. Art in Bloom 2026 will be free and open to all.

Join us for free drop-in artmaking in the Art Place on Elm Studio, led by a FAM educator. Get inspired by artwork in our exhibitions, then create your own to take home! All ages are welcome, and no experience is necessary. No sign-up is required to attend.


Create vibrant floral art by painting with watercolors and sculpting with tissue paper! This program is based on floral imagery in the exhibition Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community.

How to Build Your Very Own Home-Grown National Park 

Saturday, April 25, 2 – 3 PM  


Eleven years ago, local author, Neal Sanders and his wife Betty transformed their suburban lawn into a 25,000-square-foot native plant garden — one of the earliest examples of what is now known as a "homegrown national park." In this talk, Neal shares how it was designed, built, and maintained, with surprisingly encouraging insights for any aspiring gardener.

The Harpsichord Blooms with Chris Marie

Sunday, April 26, 2 – 3 PM 


Local musician and instructor, Chris Marie Hudson will be performing a spinet harpsichord repertoire composed in honor of the beauty of nature, especially the music of the late French Baroque. Her harpsichord was built by hand at Atelier de la Grande Maison, which was the workshop of Patrick Chevalier in 1985.

Hidden Treasures is a free art program designed to support and engage individuals with the early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, along with their care partners, or family members. Workshop: Inventing Stories with Artist Sandy Litchfield

Saturday, April 18

2 – 4 PM


A picture is worth a thousand of your words! Artist Sandy Litchfield will guide you through a creative writing process to weave together stories inspired from the works of art in Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community, which includes one of Sandy's own paintings! Come relax in this exploratory and collaborative program, designed for adults and youth ages 8 and up.

Curator Talk: Sarah Harper

2 – 3 PM


View FAM’s newest centennial exhibition through a curator’s eyes! Sarah Harper, the Terry and Eva Herndon Assistant Curator, will lead a guided tour of Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community. Harper will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how this exhibition was created, sharing how the curatorial team selected and arranged artworks from across different time periods, places, and artistic styles to form visual harmony like FAM has never seen before.


Sign up is encouraged so we know that you are attending, though it’s not required.

Drumming Workshop with Crocodile River Music

Saturday, May 30

2 – 3 PM


This hands-on workshop explores drumming practices connected to the visual art, cultural artifacts, and musical instruments featured in our exhibition FESTIVAL: A Celebration of African Art at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Inspired by the music of Mali, West Africa, play African drums while you learn traditional rhythms straight from the source!


Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to attend. Advanced sign-up is required for this program and will be limited to 30 people.

Fitchburg Farmers' Market

Thursday, April 2


FAM is free for all visitors, 12 – 7 PM. From 3 – 5:30 PM, shop at the indoor Farmers' Market, in partnership with Growing Places. This programming is supported by an endowment given to FAM in memory of Martha Malm.

Words from the Burg

Thursday, April 2
5:30 – 6:30 PM


Openest Mic has partnered with FAM at Night to present Words from the Burg, a popular poetry reading event hosted by local arts organizer, Laura DiCaronimo. Featured “local-ish” poets will include: Nasih Thomas, Meg Smith, Rikhav Kothari, and Em Judkins. This community programming is free and open to all. The festivities will continue with the "Full Mooniest Mic" at Canvas by Coff33 Corp, on 326 Main Street, from 7 – 10 PM.

Community Gallery

Material Girls Quilt Guild

April 1, 2026 – May 3, 2026


This month’s exhibition displays fabric quilted art pieces from the Material Girls Quilt Guild in Leominster, MA. The Guild is an association dedicated to the art and craft of quilt making for quilters of all ability levels. The exhibition will display a collection of wall hangings created by members of the guild.


The Community Gallery is supported by a grant from Dr. Roderick and Donna Lewin.
