The Benefits of Texas Native Plants & Xeriscaping

As water conservation efforts rise, using Texas native plants and incorporating xeriscaping into landscaping can make a big difference. These drought-tolerant plants require less water, reduce runoff, and promote local biodiversity, helping conserve valuable water resources while maintaining a beautiful garden.

How it Helps:

  • Drought Tolerance: Native plants are naturally adapted to Texas' climate, requiring significantly less water than non-native species.
  • Low Maintenance: Once established, these plants need less watering, fertilizing, and mowing, saving time and effort.
  • Supports Local Wildlife: Native plants attract beneficial pollinators like bees and butterflies, helping local ecosystems thrive.
  • Reduces Runoff: Proper xeriscaping reduces water runoff, preventing erosion and promoting healthier soil.

Smart Watering Tip of the Month

Did you know a lawn only needs one inch of water per week, even during the hottest parts of summer? Many customers are surprised to learn that overwatering is one of the biggest drivers of water waste (and higher bills).

A helpful way to monitor over-watering within landscapes is to place a small, shallow container (like a tuna can) by the irrigation system to watch for when it fills up. When the can is full, the lawn has received sufficient amounts of water.

💡 Bonus Tip: Water early in the morning or after 8 PM to reduce evaporation.

Let's Fill You In

Thank you to all who participated in Mustang Trivia last month where we asked where Mustang's water was sourced from.
