Greetings!
Spring has decidedly sprung this April, and the budding trees and flowers hint at the flurry of activity that summer will bring. I can’t help but take a moment to savor the sense of renewal.

This season buzzes with opportunity to connect, and our calendars certainly show it! Tomorrow is one of the most special days of our season, as Manna honors some of the local Heroes who join us in the fight against hunger. We are so excited that the event has sold out--and are looking forward to being with awardees, participants, and supporters–including elected officials who we’ve seen a lot of because spring is budget season in the county. Our team has joined Nonprofit Montgomery in reminding elected officials that our organizations are more essential than ever. You can do your part by registering to vote in the upcoming primary. See more information from our friends at the Board of Elections below.

Next month we will gather our entire team for the first time in two years for an in-person retreat to celebrate accomplishments, set goals for the future, and share some quality time together. We will also resume annual events like the Ride On Food Drive. This time of year never fails to renew my spirits, and I’m especially energized by these kinds of milestones where we can safely reconnect and build a new, better future.

Read on for some inspiration and opportunity to be part of a Food for All future. You’ll learn how Community Food Rescue combats food waste in our county, celebrate our partners at Upcounty Hub who brought some Spring brightness to their community, and find an invitation to tune into tomorrow’s new session of Breaking Bread. Thank you for being a part of Manna’s mission, and I wish you the best that the energy of Spring has to offer!

Consider Joining our
Food Rescue Community

One of Manna's largest programs is Community Food Rescue. CFR partners with a range of hunger relief organizations, volunteers, and businesses to make sure that surplus edible food reaches hungry neighbors. By building upon the work of establishments already recovering food before it is thrown away–and identifying new donors–CFR systematically matches rescued food to the most suitable recipient agency. CFR also coordinates the Farm to Food Bank program, which works with local farms to purchase fresh produce and then match appropriate items with recipient organizations in our CFR network. Spring Celebrations
Manna was pleased to support our partners at The Upcounty Hub with frozen chickens and bulk food staples as they held their annual Spring Basket Distribution last weekend. The distribution reached over 700 families and brought some Spring joy to children who received holiday baskets!
