Easter Eggstravaganza

On April 13, nearly 500 homeless children and families from 18 Dallas-area shelters, motels and transitional living sites experienced springtime joy at our annual Easter Eggstravaganza, hosted in partnership with Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.

This event was a cheery day for families to celebrate the Easter season outside of the shelter environment. Families played carnival games, enjoyed Easter egg hunts, shared a delicious lunch and got to spend time with the Easter Bunny! Each child left with an Easter basket filled with candy and gifts, and all parents received necessities and treats in baskets of their very own.

Many individuals, corporations and local organizations helped make this day possible through financial gifts, in-kind donations and volunteer hours. Rainbow Days is especially grateful for the support of: Lovers Lane United Methodist Church; Kristen Larkin; Pam Miller; Rusty George; Juan Lugo; Pastor Stan Copeland; Richard Rodriguez; Mary Kay Inc.; BB&T; Hope Supply Co.; Citi; National Charity League; Young Men's Service League; Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs; Rainbow Days Board of Directors; Nicole Williams; Dana Brandle; David Elliott; Diane Oxley and Christian Stringer; Haven Emery; Kay Eck and Dennis Street; Laurel and Veronica Knetig; Liz Case Pickens; Susan O'Suilleabhain and Clare Ni'Shuilleabhain; Wendy Lucas; and countless other kind-hearted donors, volunteers and supporters.

Community Connection Partnerships

As the school year winds down, the Community Connection team would like to reflect on some of the amazing partnerships that enable our success in working with youth in schools. Below are kudos to just a few of the outstanding individuals for whom we are very grateful!

South Oak Cliff High School

Issac, Ms. Akins, Ms. Moore and Armando
Rainbow Days staff members Issac Rodriguez and Armando Aguinaga provide weekly social emotional learning support groups for students at South Oak Cliff High School. Issac says their relationship with Ms. Akins and Ms. Moore gives them the flexibility and trust needed to provide the students consistent and engaging programs and support . Our success at South Oak Cliff High is largely dependent on our partnership with these two outstanding and compassionate educators.

Mrs. Aviles and Maria

Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School

Rainbow Days staff member Maria Gallegos provides weekly groups for students at Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School. Maria says she feels grateful and blessed to work with  Mrs. Aviles, the school's office manager. She says that Mrs. Aviles always welcomes her -- and students and parents alike -- with a warm smile. Further, Maria says Mrs. Aviles is always willing to step in to help find a room Rainbow Days can use to work with students whenever the school counselor is tied up with another task. Mrs. Aviles' support makes it all possible!
