On Friday, March 22, at the Annual Report to the Community and King of Prussia District Awards Luncheon, King of Prussia District proudly unveiled this year's report, Momentum that Builds. Following a brief overview of KOP's exciting year of development, attendees heard from keynote and award-winning architect/author Ellen Dunham-Jones, a leader in finding solutions for aging suburbs.  King of Prussia District also presented awards to individuals and businesses who worked to advance KOP in 2018.

Momentum that Builds is a 65-page celebration of the growth of King of Prussia over the past eight years. The report includes statistics related to retail, commercial office and industrial development, housing starts, job growth, leasing and real estate transactions, entertainment and hospitality investments, infrastructure, public open space improvements and more. It also highlights how King of Prussia District's Board, committees and staff have worked hard to build momentum, accelerate economic and job growth and increase property values in KOP.

Finishing Touches Complete First Avenue Road Diet
A mid-block crossing was the last step in the safety improvements on First Avenue

With the installation of a solar panel power source and activation of the lighting system, the mid-block crossing on First Avenue is ready for pedestrians! This safety improvement alerts drivers with a flashing beacon light when a pedestrian is ready to cross First Avenue. This section of roadway also includes a new island median, which will be planted with low-rise perennial flowers and beautiful shrubs this spring.

The mid-block crossing was the last major component of the Road Diet, which is one piece in a complete streets program for Moore Park. New ADA curb ramps, bike lanes, roadway-resurfacing and lane reconfiguration were completed last summer and fall. The next phase of this infrastructure enhancement program will continue this fall with construction of a new multimodal trail that will eventually extend from Allendale Road to North Gulph Road with a 10-foot wide asphalt path, pedestrian lighting, seating areas, trash receptacles, canopy trees and planting beds.

Upper Merion Township and King of Prussia District partnered with PennDOT to fund the First Avenue Road Diet with a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, the Township's Motor Fuel Tax Fund for road resurfacing projects and allocation from King of Prussia District.

CHOP Families Enjoy VIP Treatment for KOP Restaurant Week & KOP Shops for CHOP
Participating restaurants and retailers opened their doors to CHOP patients and their families March 11-17

King of Prussia Restaurant Week and KOP Shops for CHOP wrapped up on March 17 after what was our most successful year yet! These two events spotlight our incredible dining and shopping scene, but the charitable tie-in is what really sets this program apart. Restaurants and retailers commit to donate a portion of proceeds to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In the past four years, $58,000 has been raised for CHOP!
The Capital Grille pulled out all the stops and gave Sullivan a true night to remember with a Harry Potter themed dinner (which included a guest appearance by an owl!)

As the donation totals start to roll in (it's going to be a record-breaking year!), we also wanted to recognize the restaurants and retailers who went above and beyond to help CHOP patients and their families feel special with complimentary dinners and special events.

Linear Park Grant Awarded
This grant will allow Phase Two of the First Avenue Linear Park to begin in the spring

Upper Merion Township, in partnership with King of Prussia District, has been awarded a $421,699 Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant through the PA Dept. of Community and Economic Development for constructing Phase Two of the First Avenue Linear Park. With construction of Phase One starting this fall, King of Prussia District has initiated planning efforts for the second phase that will extend the multimodal trail to Allendale Road in Moore Park.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to local government to encourage economic development through safe and reliable modes of transportation for residents of the Commonwealth. This program is jointly administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development and PennDOT under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

With additional funding opportunities, King of Prussia District will meet with property owners and designers this spring to begin the design and engineering process that moves the second phase of this important pedestrian infrastructure project forward. The completion of this sensational multimodal system in Moore Park will improve the potential for transit-oriented development and is a prime example of transportation infrastructure that will continue sustainable growth in King of Prussia.
