A MESSAGE FROM PAT

One of the many privileges of working with The Treatment and Learning Centers for 25 years is the opportunity to impact our community and better serve individuals with disabilities through advocacy. I am currently serving my second year as the Maryland
Association of Non-Public School Board (MANSEF) President, advocating for all non-public school students.

Sunday, March 15, The Washington Post picked up my opinion piece, The Wrong Place To Cut, regarding the funding of non-public school students with special needs. I can not emphasize enough how much good schools like TLC's Katherine Thomas School do for students who are referred, many with significant challenges, and the importance of adequate funding to meet their needs.

Please take a moment to read this piece and understand the challenges that face non-public schools and the students they serve. As we all know, there is no more important priority than the needs of our children... all of our children.

Thank you!

Karen Morgret Appointed to Commission on People

TLC's Outcomes Service's Assistant Director Karen Morgret was recently appointed to the Commission on People with Disabilities.   The Commission advises the County Executive  Isiah Leggett on programs and services concerning the nearly 190,000 residents in Montgomery County with disabilities.

The Commission has 25 voting members, and at least 5 non-voting members. The commission includes representation from individuals with disabilities as well as parents and service providers. The Wiz at The Katherine Thomas High School

KTHS students dedicated almost two months of preparation for their performance of The Wiz. Students memorized lines, displaying appropriate emotions and tone for the performance. Students sang popular songs, including Ease on Down the Road, No Bad News and The Crow Anthem. One of the most memorable scenes was the extraordinary acting performed by a melting Wicked Witch when Dorothy throws a cup of chocolate powder in his face! Drama teacher Teddy Aitkins, said, "I felt so proud watching these students take to the stage everything that they have learned during the school year. They worked hard and were ready to perform."
