Free 1-hour HHSC-approved CE Course on Human Trafficking Prevention
Health care professionals are now required to complete training on human trafficking prevention approved by the Health and Human Services Commissioner as a condition for license renewal (HB2059 (86R)). HHSC recently announced approval of a one-hour CE Course. The SOAR framework is a trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically appropriate response to human trafficking. It provides a quick mental reference for professionals to keep in mind the best way to help individuals who are at risk or have experienced trafficking. Take advantage of this free training opportunity and ensure you will meet the requirements to renew your license.

Frances Fowler Wallace Memorial Award
From the
Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, this award provides financial assistance to support doctoral students’ dissertation research on “the cause, treatment, cure and prevention of mental disease, mental illness and mental disorders." The annual award provides up to $3,000 for research-related expenses such as mileage from related travel, survey mailings, software, participant stipends and training. Award recipients must provide a copy of the final dissertation to the foundation.

Disability Rights Texas Seeking Volunteers for PAIMI Advisory Council
DisabilityRightsTexas (DRTx) is seeking volunteers to serve a three-year term on its
PAIMI Advisory Council (PAC), starting October 1, 2020. Persons with mental illness, family members, and professionals are all represented on the Council. We are committed to be representative of Texas’ diverse ethnic and cultural communities and to reflect different geographic areas of the state. Applications must be submitted no later than August 1, 2020.

NHSC Loan Repayment Programs: One Application, Three Programs - May 21 Deadline
|
|
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) opened its application for three loan repayment programs: the NHSC Loan Repayment Program, the NHSC Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Program and the NHSC Rural Community Loan Repayment Program. NHSC will be hosting a series of webinars to assist in the application process. Application deadline is May 21, 2020, 6:30 p.m. CST.

SBEC Proposed New Rules: Comments due by April 20, 2020
The State Board for Educator Certification published proposed rule changes on March 20, 2020 to, among other items, implement the requirements of HB 18 to:
- add training on the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs to the list of continuing education requirements for principals and school counselors,
- remove student loan default as grounds for non-renewal of certificates, and
- clean up this section of the Texas Administrative Code.
TCA and TSCA support these rule changes. Please submit your comments no later than April 20, 2020. A
form for submitting public comments is available on the proposed SBEC rules web page.
Suggested comments:
I support the changes to 19 TAC Chapter 232, Section 232.11.(e)(D) and Section 232.11 (f)(E) to include training on the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs as a continuing education requirement for principals and school counselors as well as the changes to 19 TAC Chapter 232. Section 232.7 (c) (5) to remove student loan default as grounds for non-renewal of an educator certificate. Thank you.
