April is Donate Life Month!

Volunteer and Case Western Reserve University student Valery Mao with the banner she designed and painted. Banners made by volunteers and guests will adorn our apartment balconies beginning on Blue & Greeen Day (April 11th).

At Transplant House of Cleveland, we believe in advocating for organ donation and transplantation 365 days a year. Every April we are especially focused on joining the rest of the transplant community to raise awareness of the life-saving impact of saying "yes" to becoming an organ, eye, and tissue donor. A single donor can save as many as 8 lives and heal many, many more.

Here at the House we see this healing power firsthand. Not all transplant journeys have the outcomes that we and our guest families hope for; but organ donation and transplantation make it possible for many of our families to have a second chance at life. For patients this can mean so many different things: fulfilling the dreams for a retirement shared with a spouse, the chance to be present at a child's wedding, more time with grandchildren, getting married and starting a family, or returning to school.

Our guests come to us from all walks and stages of life with a shared hope: to receive the gift of a renewed life. Their chance begins with a "yes" from a donor.

If you are not yet registered as a donor, please consider doing so today. You can find all of the information and sign up easily by clicking the button below.ο»Ώ

Meet Joel and Angela Prentice

House guests Joel and Angela enjoy some time on the porch in the spring sunshine at Transplant House.

β€œJoel started having problems with his heart when he turned 50. It came out of nowhere – he had no high blood pressure, diabetes, or any other medical problems,” Angela, Joel’s caregiver and wife of 38 years says.

Angela is also a doctor – a primary care physician in their hometown of Dayton – and so when Joel appeared to be lagging behind while they were on a trip to Disney World, she knew that he should see his doctor. Nevertheless, neither of them expected the news that his heart was in severe failure.

Happenings Around the Houseο»Ώ

Thank You to the Ladies of the Strongsville Women's League!

A big thank you to the amazing ladies from the Strongsville Women's League for donating a ton of goodies, decorating gift bags, and filling our common spaces with spring decor to help our guests celebrate the arrival of the season! We are so grateful for their kindness and the care they have continued to provide to the families who call this House home over the years.

Bell Ringings at THoC!

We always love to celebrate the gift of a second chance at life with our guests. This past month was full of bell ringings as recipients and their caregivers returned home after many months in Cleveland. Kristen Janovich celebrated her return home to southwest Pennsylvania after her January 19th liver transplant and Thomas and Elaine Simpson celebrated Thomas's double lung transplant after a stay at the House of 38 nights. (You can watch them ring the bell here.)

Twice is Extra Nice

Andy and Nicole Wisner donated not one, but TWO dinners to Transplant House guests this past month! The dinners were: chicken soup with rice, spinach salad with pine nut dressing, pasta with artichoke sauce, bread, and spumoni with pizelles; and chicken paprikash, salad, hot pretzels, and dessert. We are beyond grateful for the thought, care, and generosity of the Wisners and of all our incredible meal volunteers. Your meals have such an impact of the lives of those who call our House "home."

So far in 2025, Your Support Has Made Possible...

Ring that Bell!

Ring that bell! Todd Roth received his liver transplant at University Hospitals just over 3 months ago. Todd lives locally, so he did not stay with us, but he did become close with the other patients who take part in our support offerings. We are so glad that Todd became part of the community here at Transplant House β€” the challenges of the transplant journey are a bit easier to navigate when shared with others on a similar path.

If you are not already a registered organ donor, please consider becoming one today.
