Josh Hall Joins Hall of Fame Board of Directors

Josh Hall’s roots within the off-road community run quite deep. Growing up as the eldest son of Rod Hall during Rod’s legendary run as a desert racer, opportunities to travel to some of the most picturesque and desolate areas on multiple continents were many. Places like Afton Canyon, Pismo Beach, the Three Sisters, Mama Becky’s and Alfonsina’s were places that felt like home.

Josh had the opportunity to watch, listen and learn from many of the young sports most celebrated icons: Bill Stroppe, Parnelli Jones, Larry Minor, Malcolm Smith, Brian Chuchua, Mark Smith, K.J. Howe, Walt Lott, Mickey Thompson, Judy Smith (and many others) were all individuals to have a heavy influence on his life by the age of 15.

April 25 Event to Honor Inductee Ed Waldheim
At the Hall of Fame 2019 Induction & Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, the Louis Unser "Never Give Up" Award was presented to inductee Ed Waldheim by Hall of Fame inductee and board member, Frank DeAngelo. Waldheim, who had been fighting cancer, still managed to attend the ceremony. He was weakened from cancer treatments and was confined to a wheelchair, but the big thumbs up and smile on his face tell a lot about this remarkable man. Ed passed away within weeks attending the ceremony. We are so honored and grateful that he was able to attend in person and receive the outpouring of thanks and gratitude from the more than 500 people in attendance that night.

Friends of Jawbone, the Mojave Desert trail preservation group founded by Waldheim, was honored by the Hall of Fame with the 2019 Volunteer Award. Friends of Jawbone is dedicating the 24th Annual Moose Anderson Day event on April 25th to Ed's memory. To learn more click here .
Remembering Inductee Clark Collins

Since our last newsletter, the Hall of Fame lost another great land use advocate. Clark Collins passed away at the age of 77 after battling cancer.

Clark was one of the founders of the Blue Ribbon Coalition, a recreational land use advocacy group.

Originally formed in 1987 to help protect the rights of outdoor enthusiasts and their access to public lands in Idaho, Blue Ribbon has grown into a national organization.

Clark was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006 in the Pioneer - Advocacy category.

Memorial Museum of Liberty "I address a thought to all those who gave their lives or who suffered for the conquest of freedom." -- Edo Ansaloni

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hall of Fame inductee Edo Ansaloni of Italy. He was 95 years old.

While we honor Edo for his achievements in off-road, he should be remembered and honored for his heroic efforts on behalf of his homeland during World War II's crucial Battle of Bologna in 1945.

At 4 am on April 9, 1945, the offensive on Bologna began. Edo was one of the first to warn of the Germans' advance on the town. American and British troops came to the aid of weary Polish forces who had been battling the Germans, and the combined forces fought successfully to secure Bologna and defeat the invading German troops.

Throughout the nearly two week long battle, Edo took to the streets, risking his life to document the invasion through the lens of his camera.

Edo dedicated the rest of his life to honoring the sacrifice of those who fought to defend freedom, opening the Memorial Museum of Liberty in Bologna.

Born in Bologna in 1925, Edo grew up on his father’s farm, in northern Italy, where he learned about cars salvaging and converting military vehicles, for use as farm equipment during World War II.
