Community Connections

Bucks County Opportunity Council's e-newsletter

April is National Volunteer Month, and here at BCOC we know the value of our volunteers! They are Community Action, and make it possible for us to reduce poverty and partner with the community to promote Economic Self Sufficiency.

Summer Farming Opportunities and Internships

Exciting news- We are once again going to have volunteer opportunities at Bucks County Farms; field work that we hope will provide between 30,000-40,000 pounds of produce for Bucks County families in need. Hope of the Harvest Charitable Garden is a partnership with Delaware Valley University to harvest local produce grown on their campus to local families in need. In addition, we're partnering with a private farm in New Hope grow and donate. Both projects rely on volunteer support.

New Hope Farm

We're putting together a group of 20 people to farm weekly, 1-2 days each week, for up to 20 weeks of the growing season. This will be an ongoing opportunity from May until September. Volunteers will be 18 or over (no children allowed); commit to at least 10 weeks during the growing season, complete a volunteer application and waiver form, and a PA State background clearance for BCOC.

Pre-season prep work in the fields begins in April, if you are interested in coming out for one day or more this month to do field prep, you can also sign up here: https://bit.ly/3vemamU

It's baaack- Hope of the Harvest Charitable Garden! On the grounds of Delaware Valley University, fruits and vegetables are being planted and harvested to feed our friends and neighbors in need. Community partners have collaborated to provide Bucks County food pantries with locally grown, healthy produce to supplement the non-perishable goods they distribute. This charitable initiative, known as Hope of the Harvest, has produced over 115,000 pounds of food for BCOC since its inaugural growing season in 2012
