SPECIAL ELECTION COMING UP - MAY 16

The fate of the 138Kv Poles - Prop 412

PROPOSITION 412 keep it in mind!!

It is critical that Proposition 412 be approved; otherwise, we risk having huge towers running right through the center of the city, the University of Arizona, and through residential and historic areas.

SPECIAL ELECTION MAY 16 -

The renewal of the 25-year franchise contract through Proposition 412 is the only subject on the special election ballot. The contract includes a proposed increase in the franchise fee from 2.25% to 3%; the additional 0.75% is called the Community Resilience Fee. The increase in the fee would raise the bill of an average TEP customer by less than $1 per month. Most of the money raised (about $5 million per year) is directed to be used to finance the costs of undergrounding.

A SPEAKER FOR YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING - As part of facilitating public understanding and discussion of the issue, Joe Salkowski, TEP Senior Director of Communication and Public Affairs, would like to come and speak with neighborhood associations and individual groups about the franchise fee proposal.

We urge you to invite Joe to meet with your group. (His information: Mobile: 520-404-3164; Office: 520-884-3625; and email: jsalkowski@tep.com.).

GETTING THE WORD OUT - Please continue to promote the special election to your neighborhoods in communications, such as emails, newsletters, and meetings, and even chatting with your neighbors.

Historic District Monument Signs - More coming?

On March 22, Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association voted to pursue erecting monument signs in the future along Grant Road. The plans for future signage will be forwarded to the engineers to be included in the Phase 5/6 construction plans for the Grant Road widening project.

The JPNA Association and the non-profit, Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc will be conducting fundraisers--yes we have to pay for them ourselves!

Donations can be made at http://www.jeffersonpark.info/donatedues.html

Monument sign erected on the corner of Grant and Euclid on March 15

MOUNTAIN AVENUE - Update

A petition for a speed bump at Seneca near Tyndall is nearing completion. The JPNA Traffic Advisory Committee has been hard at work obtaining the requisite number of signatures. Then, the petition will be submitted for review and approval to the Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM). More information to come.

And the ongoing issue of Mountain Ave... JP will set up a separate multi-neighborhood meeting with DTM and address other possibilities for making Mountain Avenue safer.

Based on advice from DTM, Department of Transportation and Mobility, the JPNA board recently voted to request a decrease in the speed limit on Mountain--from 30mph to 25mph. That process is moving forward, but is ultimately a Mayor and Council decision.
