Comparing the 1st quarter of 2022 with the 1st quarter of 2021: 1,205 homes were sold, representing a 10% decrease, at an average price of $278,962, a 5% increase.

Advocacy @ Work

On Monday, April 11, 2022, Governor Glenn Youngkin signed the Virginia REALTORS® health insurance legislation into law. This victory follows more than three years of intense efforts from the Virginia RALTORS® Government Relations team.

“The passage of this health insurance bill is outstanding news for our association. The bill – which passed both the House and Senate with near-unanimous support – opens new doors of opportunity for the very first time,” says Virginia REALTORS® 2022 President Denise Ramey of Charlottesville. “After years of hard work, our team can go to work to pursue health insurance options for our membership.”

The new law, which will go into effect on July 1, 2022, is the first step in a process of negotiating plans with potential insurance providers. Virginia REALTORS® has created a REALTOR® Health Insurance Resource Page to keep members informed of their progress.

NOTICE: Be aware of scams targeting REALTORS® to sign up now for REALTOR® Health Insurance. No insurance providers have been identified, so there is no way to sign up yet.

2022 RVAR Spring Golf Tournament

The 2022 RVAR Spring Golf Tournament will be played on Friday, May 13th. This year our Tournament will be held at Botetourt Country Club.

Make a PAW-sitive Contribution

Join us on May 18th from 8am-5pm & May 19th from 8am-3pm for A Pet Food (and supplies) Drive benefiting Angels of Assisi and the Roanoke Valley SPCA. This will be a drive up...drop off...drive away event held at the RVAR offices (back of the building) at 4358 Starkey Road. Click here for a list of needed items. Both charities request that food donated be Purina brand dog and cat food.

Our pets mean so much to us, so let's make sure that the pets that are waiting for their fur-ever home have all they need to stay healthy and safe.

Roanoke Rescue Mission - Welcome Home Kits



The RVAR is proud to have supported the Roanoke Rescue Mission over the years and we are always looking to find new ways to help. A Welcome Home Kit is a basic list of items for the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, to assist individuals in setting up a new home once they leave the Rescue Mission. The RVAR Community Service Committee is dedicated to supplying Welcome Home Kits to the Rescue Mission and we need your help.

For a donation of $120 you will be giving an individual the basics to begin a new life in a new home. If you would like to donate, please contact Jim Sweetwood at jim@rvar.com or call at 540-772-0526. Donations may be made by cash, credit card or check made payable to the RVAR.

NAR Remodeling Report



U.S. households saw homeowners and families embark on a wide variety of renovations and remodeling projects over the past year, according to the new 2022 Remodeling Impact Report, a joint study from the National Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

Painting a home’s interior, adding a home office, installing hardwood flooring and closet renovations all received a perfect “Joy Score” in the new study. For interior projects, the highest percentage cost recovered was from refinishing hardwood floors at 147%, new wood flooring at 118% and insulation update at 100%.

Exterior projects with the highest “Joy Score” were for painting exterior siding, new vinyl or wood windows and new steel or fiberglass doors. For exterior projects, the highest percentage cost recovered was from new roofing and new garage door, both at 100%.

VAR Broker Premier: Advance Broker Certification



Broker Premier is a broker certification program, designed by VAR, aimed at providing established practices to improve day-to-day operations of a brokerage office and offer techniques for better management of agents, staff and administrative challenges. The program consists of six required courses, totaling around 30 hours of content. Five of these courses qualify for CE credit. Click here to learn more and/or register. Environmental Hazards: RVAR’s Education Committee offers another Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, May 24th, 11AM-12:30PM. Presenters include ECS Limited (Chris Chapman and Alexandra Moon) and Hill Top Contractors (John Stump). Learn from the experts how to address environmental hazards including:

• Mold vs. mildew
• Buried oil tanks on residential properties
