April 2020
Dear Friends,
During this extremely difficult time for our world, the Board of the Friends of the Boca Raton Library wishes you and your families a safe and healthy journey through new ways of living, communicating and social distancing. Therefore, we are putting our number one priority on our communication with you through newsletters, social media, and blogging. We want to stay closely in touch with you to be a resource for you and the library during these difficult times. We hope you will stay in touch with us as well, bringing your thoughts and ideas to our discussion.
As with other organizations, our social events have come to a halt for the season, and we are not clear what the Fall will bring in terms of this terrible pandemic. We will keep you informed of our status. It is not clear when the library will reopen, but the library staff will keep you informed through the its communication channels. We are all hoping for April 30th, but that is just a projection.
At the beginning of the year, I announced to the Board that this would be my last year as Board President. I have been on the Board for eight years and president for the past seven years and feel strongly that it is time to hand over the reins to a new president.
To that end, I am pleased to announce that effective May 1, 2020, Tracy Wasserman will assume the role of President of the Friends of the Boca Raton Library. Tracy has been a member of our Board of Directors for more than five years and was Secretary to the Board for most of that time. She developed our media communication strategies which included our social media presence as well as newsletters and other communication with our members, followers and Bookstore customers. She is well versed in the activities and work of the Friends. Tracy also has a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Please join me in welcoming Tracy as she takes on this new role for the Friends, the Library and the Community.
As for my own plans, I will remain on the Board for the remainder of my term and help with the transition to our new president, along with a transition committee. We felt this was the perfect timing for our change in leadership due to this hiatus in much of our operations. Tracy will also give great leadership to our communication strategies with our members, Bookstore customers and followers. In today’s climate, that is so important.
I have greatly enjoyed my tenure as President, and I am handing over the gavel knowing that our Board has accomplished a great deal to enhance the important educational contribution our library provides to the community. We have and will be long-time advocates for the important work of our community library.
I feel very good about the transition to Tracy and know that we are in good hands.
