Six months into my new life as an independent consultant, I thought I'd send you a quick update and some thoughts on innovation and change. The most important thing I've learned is that going solo means you need your friends, colleagues and mentors more than ever!

Do you know someone who could use any of the following?
  • Executive Coaching: Helping individuals progress to the next stage in their careers
  • Team Capability: Visioning; Launch and Capability Building
  • Innovation: Initiatives; Team Sessions; Training and Change Management
  • Strategic Opportunities: Facilitation of Off-sites; Market and Opportunity Definition
If so, please pass this along!

Just a reminder that you're receiving this email because we have worked together before. Don't forget to add [email protected] to your address book so we'll be sure to land in your inbox!

A Time For Inspiration
In March, I made my first trip to South by Southwest, the legendary tech and arts festival in Austin. It was even more amazing that everyone had said and I highly recommend at least one visit for anyone interested in learning about new ideas (who's up for joining me next year?). It helped inspire me to develop a few programs aimed at supporting the growth of emerging companies and inspiring innovation in larger enterprises. More on that in the next newsletter. Here are some of my reflections on what I learned at SxSW.

Here I am, hanging out with Jay-Z - kinda.
Innovation is Changing - My Guest Column in Economic Times
Economic Times
Economic Times guest column.
I was invited by the Economic Times to write about 10 innovations that will change the next 10 years.

Instead of sticking to the brief, I asked to write about Five Innovations that will change THE WAY WE INNOVATE.
  • Given the speed of change, 10 years is too long a period to even assume one can predict. Don't believe me? Some consumer technologies that didn't exist 10 years go include satellite imagery, satellite radio, broadband, Facebook, Twitter...
  • So much has changed in the space of how we understand the world, develop insights, design and develop products & services, that felt like the area to focus on

Resource: Get the most out of your social media assets
I believe all business folks can benefit from becoming better at social media. Not everyone needs to be going full tilt, but we all need to understand how it's affecting and shaping businesses of all kinds.

I have been working on my own skills, thanks to my at-home tutor (and husband), @Sree Sreenivasan (he teaches thousands of others every year - so why not me)?

You can follow my adventures on Twitter at @RoopaOnline and here's one of the best two-pagers you'll ever find about how to get better on social: Be Good at Social Media Without Really Trying, by Ernie Smith (@ShortFormErnie).

You may also consider Sree's in-person and online Advanced Social Media Workshop that starts on Thursday, May 16, 2013 (you can take it from anywhere in the world; it also includes two weeks of online coaching). Details are at http://bit.ly/cjsm2013b
Thank you for being part of my journey - I look forward to hearing from you and being of service to you or your colleagues in any way possible.
