FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Greetings to Our Hub on Canal Supporters

Were you at our  An Affair of the HeART--A Night in Havana  on March 9 at the Smyrna Yacht Club? If you were, I'm pretty sure that whatever expectations you had ahead of time were surpassed. The music. The food. The dancing and dancers. The activities. The ambiance. The details--oh the details. Our second annual fundraising gala was everything we hoped for. We hope it was for you as well.

If you couldn't, or didn't join us, we hope you'll make plans to attend next year's gala. Mark you calendar for March 14, 2020. We'll have updates later this year. We've pasted links below to hundreds of pictures from the event. Relive the night, or see what you missed. Our thanks again to all who attended and/or sponsored.

Turning to look ahead, you're going to want to plan on being at The Hub on April 12 for our Special Music Night. There are more details below but we'll be featuring Smokehouse with Anthony "Packrat" Thompson and my friend, Robert "Lightning Boy" Thomas. Smokehouse is always a crowd favorite and we expect a full house. Get here early and wear your dancing shoes .

Richard England, President

New Smyrna After School
Fashion Club
In September the Hub on Canal began a partnership with the City of New Smyrna Beach to offer an after school fashion design program for middle and high school students. Through this program students learn the basics of fashion design, color, fabrics, sewing, pattern making and more. More importantly they are developing technical and career skills that will last a lifetime, helping them to build confidence and self-esteem.

Led by New Smyrna Beach Middle School Art Teacher, Samantha Hughes, Fashion Club Members are also learning about fashion branding and marketing that can lead to career opportunities in the fashion industry as well as ancillary and support businesses such as accessories, modeling, hair and make-up and more. Industry professionals and local businesses are supporting the program offering their knowledge and expertise to the students.

The results of their efforts will be showcased in a New York Style fashion event on Sunday, May 19 th  from 5-7pm at The Brannon Center. During the event students will showcase their own Haute Couture designs. Please consider supporting this important program.
