On Day 2 of the Republican National Convention, Dr. Ben Carson caused a stir when he said that Sal Alinsky's book entitled "Rules For Radicals" was dedicated to Lucifer. We haven't read that book, and we aren't supporting Dr. Carson's comments here; but when it comes to GMOs, we can't help but feel there's some really, really dark energy behind them, their proliferation, their support and the recently passed DARK Act. True to its activist's name, The DARK Act was passed by the Senate "in a late night vote on Thursday," July 7, 2016. This Newsletter is an attempt to explain what GMOs are, what the on-going battle is and finally, what the DARK Act is that was just passed by Congress and is awaiting the President's signature. If you're sensitive about criticizing our current President, the presumptive Democrat Presidential Nominee, the Democrat Party, the Republican Party and the Tea Party, don't read this Newsletter because they are all about to be bashed for being in the GMO bag together. 

Ironically, here's one dastardly place where they all seem to agree (or at least enough of them to get a really bad bill passed). What do they agree on? They agree that almost 90% of the American people can go to hell in regard to their wishes that GMOs be properly labeled! Now that's saying something; and this isn't the first time we've said it (except this time we added the "hell" word because this is a dark and hellish bill that was just passed).  To learn more about what happened with the DARK Act in April, go to our April Newsletter. Us food activists were celebrating in April; but we knew the battle wasn't over or won, and that the Biotechs were going to wage a counter attack in the near future.

Let us be clear, the only reason that Donald Trump isn't being mentioned here is because his position on GMOs is still anomalous as he's the newcomer among these folks who have been and still are in positions of power and are determined to continue to shove GMOs down our throats against our will. On the other hand, Bernie Sanders needs an honorable mention when it comes to GMOs because he's fought long and hard to get them labeled, and it was his state, Vermont, that actually passed a mandatory labeling bill, which the DARK ACT has just voided (more on that below).

So let's just go ahead and jump into the GMO weeds, shall we. 

And now for Senator Debbie Stabenow (D). One more face and name to emblazon in your memory as a traitor to the American people. Let's see who contributes to her campaigns, which have been many because she's also a professional politician having served in the House of Representatives from 1997 to 2001 and as a Michigan Senator since 2001. She will be facing her next election in 2018.    

Dow Chemical Company gave Senator Stabenow $34,207 for her last campaign. One of Dow Chemical Company's business lines is Agricultural Sciences in which they provide "seed/plant biotechnology [read GMOs] products and technologies". What a surprise!

Senator Stabenow has a reputation as a supporter of GMOs and the Biotech companies that create them. On May 26, 2013, 2 million, that's "M" for million people marched against Monsanto, one of the premiere Biotech companies, and the media paid little to no attention to it. "The day before the event, an amendment to the farm bill that would have allowed the individual states to pass laws protecting consumers from unlabeled GMOs was quietly shot down in the Senate with a vote of 71-27 against this right. The timing of this betrayal, right before a long weekend, goes along with the general modus operandi of sliding through things that will meet with objections from the public when they are otherwise distracted."

"The failure to pass this amendment was due in part to Monsanto mouthpiece Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the chair of the Agriculture Committee.  Stabenow, incidentally, received over three quarters of a million dollars from agribusiness interests ($739,926 to be exact) in agribusiness donations.  Stabenow utilized the propaganda that is being dispersed by the likes of Monsanto and the Gates Foundation to argue her point."

"Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the chair of the Agriculture Committee, spoke on behalf of the biotech giant seizing the opportunity to focus primarily on the myth that genetically modified ingredients feed the hungry people of the world, ignoring the fact that 64 countries now require GMO labeling.

'This particular amendment would interfere with the FDA's science-based process to determine what food labeling is necessary for consumers,' Stabenow said.

'It's also important to note that around the world now we are seeing genetically modified crops that have the ability to resist crop diseases and improve nutritional content and survive drought conditions in many developing countries,' she added.

Unable to make the connection with how allowing states to label GMO foods would interfere with corporate biotech operations abroad, she instead took the opportunity to show that the chair of the Agriculture Committee is marching lockstep with the Gates Foundation.

'We see wonderful work being done by foundations like the Gates Foundation and others, that are using new techniques to be able to feed hungry people,' she said."
