Dear Sally,
Aquarium keepers or Fishers of Men?
“Follow me, and I will make you Fishers of Men” Matt. 4:19
The Sadducees and Pharisees were “Aquarium keepers” while Jesus on the other hand was a “Fisher of Men,” so who are we?
If our life isn’t touching lives outside of our “Aquarium” something is amiss. We have become too comfortable and content in the confines of our aquarium.
Jesus, our Supreme example, stepped out of the cultural aquarium of His day and ventured out into the ocean to fish for the Roman soldier, the Woman at the well, the 10 Lepers, the Demoniacs, the Gentiles, always reaching outside the Ninety and Nine, in order to touch the “One”. How about you? How about me? Or are we too plateaued and satisfied with the “Blessed?”
Fishing is NOT complicated and if done right can be highly effective. You simply CARE for all you come in contact with. Those who respond you begin discovering their NEED, in and through Christ, then MINISTER to their need, win their confidence and introduce them to their SAVIOR who meets All their needs!.
Let us not remain self-satisfied and stale in our aquariums! Let us be the “Good Samaritan” and not pass any by.
No, let us “preach the gospel to the poor.. heal the brokenhearted… proclaim liberty to the captives… recovery of site to the blind… set at liberty those who are oppressed and proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18 and not be the Dead Sea!
Departing from our aquariums and feeding the fish, there’s an ocean full of them!
