Arbor Day Tree Planting at TFS!

Please plan to join fellow GFWC Georgia members on Friday this week, February 15, 10:30AM, at Tallulah Falls School. We will work together to plant a tree in our Past Presidents’ Garden. Lunch will be provided at the Lipscomb Cottage and then we will go to Tallulah Gorge to plant 100 trees! Please bring your shovels and work gloves if you have them...and lots of energy. We are sure you will have a good time with us on this project!
If you are unable to venture to TFS, please let us know how your club is celebrating Georgia’s Arbor Day and meeting one of the GFWC Grand Initiatives.
Plant 1,000 trees - Celebrate Arbor Day!
When GFWC President Mary Ellen Brock gave us this challenge as part of her seven grand initiatives, this president thought "this will be the easy one". Wow! Was this president wrong! It is been the most difficult to locate affordable trees, be able to have them shipped by Georgia's Arbor Day on February 15, and locate a place to plant 100 seedlings.

Tallulah Falls State Park has been gracious in allowing the GFWC Georgia federation to plant the seedlings, giving us a list of various native trees they need to help with erosion issues. I was finally able to locate Warren County Nursery in Minnville, TN to help with a cost friendly native seedling to ship by the needed February 15 date.

On February 15, we will have our third day of preparing the TFS State President's Garden for our rededication on June 1, 2019. Please join us at 10:30 to plant our tree in the garden. We will provide a light lunch at 12:00 at the Lipscomb Cottage for those who can join us and then drive over to Tallulah Falls State Park to plant trees at 1:00. Bring a shovel!During this time, we will plant a tree in our garden in memory and honor of our life directors. After working in the garden, we will gather at Tallulah Falls State park and plant 100 seedlings in the gorge at 1:00.

Looking for a way to plant trees? Having a hard time finding a place? Here's another way to make a difference in planting trees. Sponsor one! Find information at . Other ideas include working with your local school, library, or church to plant a tree in honor of a dedicated female community person. Talk to your local school and work with a class to plant seedlings. The purchase of seedlings is approximately .30-1.00 each. Sponsor a science class and teach them about tree planting. Contact your local high school agriculture department and ask a student to teach your club about tree planting. Plant a tree at a local nursing home or assisted living facility.

Let's meet this next challenge with the same gusto GFWC Georgia women have met all of the challenges! Share the love of the outdoors!

In federation sisterhood,

Tina Daniel
State President
