Greetings from the Arboretum!
Spring keeps bringing in the birds! Not only have early migrators like the Black-and-White Warbler, Eastern Towhee, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher been spotted on CHA grounds, but we've also seen Snowy Owls, Green Parakeets, Toco Toucans, and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos!
Now, you may be thinking, "hmm, but April Fool's Day was last week, right?" To that, we say, "Yes!" We are not joking when we say you can view beautiful European Robins, Mute Swans, Australian Budgerigars, and even a Phoenix or two inside the Stone House! The only catch is, they're all 2-D.
116 drawings created by Millburn Township elementary school students from kindergarten through 4th grade are currently on display in the Stone House. These beautiful creations were made in celebration of today, World Draw a Bird Day! This day is meant to be a celebration of art, no matter the skill level, and making people smile with your designs. With this as the goal, we can confidently say that these participating students succeeded. It is difficult not to smile at all of their incredible creations.
You can view this art exhibition for a limited time during your next visit to CHA. View them at an upcoming event like Draw a Bird Day this afternoon between 3-6pm, or visit during our open hours, 9am-4pm daily. Art will remain up until the conclusion of our spring birdathon and fundraiser, Beak Week, on April 24th.
As a reminder, Beak Week is a fun and friendly weeklong competition where participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to form teams and collect pledges and donations for identifying bird species throughout New Jersey. Join us on a birding adventure and community celebration of nature and conservation! There is still plenty of time to form a team and get registered before the excitement officially begins on April 17th.
Sincerely,
CHA Staff
