Parent's Club Launching in June

What works?  What programs are out there?  Who do we see about something we want to try?  Parents are full of "How do you..." and "This is what works for me..."

The aim of the Arc Parent's Club is to get parents together in a casual, relaxing atmosphere where they can share ideas and network.

After a recent Lunch & Learn program, parents lingered longer, and lamented that there isn't a "clearing house of ideas" for them, and the PARENT'S CLUB was born.

No charge.  Just a group of like minded folks networking and sharing.  Our first Parent's Club is at 6:30 PM on Monday, June 17th.  To reserve your space or find out more, please call Kathy Gingerich at 717.920-2727 or
e-mail her at

Sponsorships Help Propel our Arc!

Our Arc survives on philanthropy, and one of the most visible examples of that are those companies, individuals, and families who step up and say, "We want to sponsor something to support your work."

In the past, we have received sponsorships for the restoration of our Weekend Respite Camp, various offices in our building when we had a capitol campaign, and certainly many sponsorships to support our programs and services throughout the years.

Here is a list of upcoming sponsorships. We welcome you to present this to your company or others you know who would want to see our programs and services strengthened through community support.  We can also custom-design a sponsorship specifically for a particular interest.  Just call Craig George at 717-920-2727 for an in-depth discussion of how vital your sponsorship would be to our Consumers.

  • Summer Respite Camp Sponsor: Help provide programs for Special Needs students who do not have the resources to pay for camp.  Hugely successful program.  Every $625 in grant funds we raise will pay for a 1-week period; $5,000 would raise funds to support eight 1-week periods.  Any amount will help a Special Needs student who has no funding for attending summer programs.
Every Month:   You choose the size and the program receiving your monthly support.  Some choices:
  • Art Supplies for the ArcExpessions art classes, which are eagerly attended!
  • Monthly Friday Night Dance sponsor.  Participants learn social skills and networking.
  • Aktion Club Sponsor (Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg affiliate). These adults with Special Needs have a very active civic club!

Our EITC Programs

EITC programs at The Arc of Dauphin County enrich the school experience for students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.  The EITC programs also give students memories and experiences (learning) that can last a lifetime for many, and certainly help elevate their everyday life.

About EITC

Administered through the state's Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the EITC program awards tax credits to businesses for contributions to Scholarship Organizations, Educational Improvement Organizations, and Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Organizations.
  • A business can apply to receive up to 90% of its contribution back in a tax credit.
Remember: To be a company that provides an EITC credit, you must apply for status with DCED.   Be a new business that applies by July 1 and please designate your contribution to the school program operated by The Arc of Dauphin County.  Get full information and suggestions by calling Craig George at 717-920-2727.

Incident Management (IM) Bulletin Available for Public Comment + IM Bulletin Webcast + IM Listening Sessions

The Office of Developmental Programs has announced a new bulletin available for public comment regarding incident management.   The Arc of Dauphin County is at the forefront of ensuring that quality of life is always to be expected through our Certified Investigator (CI) service, which investigates incidents.  In fact, we will be sending more staff to Certified Investigator (CI) training within the next year.  We also provide CI services to agencies that do not have a CI on board.

To see the full original bulletin and its six companion documents, please contact either ODP at or us: Ken Seeger, Arc of Dauphin County, 717-290-2727 (

In accordance with the guiding principles of Everyday Lives: Values in Action, individuals and their families have identified areas of importance for proposed improvements to increase the overall quality of their lives.

The promotion of self-direction, choice and control along with promoting health, wellness, and safety can move individuals toward their Everyday Life.  These principles are put into practice when all stakeholders report incidents, investigate incidents, and take actions based on these reports that prevent re-occurrence of a similar incident.  The IM Bulletin gives instructions to all stakeholders about how to implement the 55 PA. Code Chapter 6100 regulations related to incident management.

In order to support stakeholders with their review of the draft IM bulletin, a webcast is available on MyODP.  The webcast provides a review of the methodology used to develop the bulletin and also gives a brief overview of concepts and/or new information.

Our Archivist needs photo albums in order to properly store photographs. Do you have any unused photo albums at home? We especially need ones that will hold 4x5 or 4x6 photographs. The easiest to use are the 8x10 or 8.5x11 "magnetic" sheet pages. We can take any amount- after all , we are archiving 65 years' worth of material! Please call Barb at 717.920.2727.
Do you like organization?  The Arc of Dauphin County seeks energized volunteers who "want to make the world a better place" by helping us with our many programs and services.  Even one day a month would be wonderful help!  Call Barb at 717.920.2727.
Your place to socialize and enjoy the music is The Arc of Dauphin County.  For nearly a decade we have been offering "First Friday Dances" complete with a DJ spinning your favorite tunes.  $5.00 covers entrance and hot dogs, cookies, soda, etc. (free to Charter Members of The Arc of Dauphin County). No reservation required.
Help support our friends with disabilities through our advocacy, education, consumer programs, life in the community/inclusion, and so much more!  Your gift ensures our non-profit can continue to provide the best services possible.  Our new Respite Center, now open and operating, will also benefit from your generosity.  Please e-mail Craig George at  or call the main switchboard at 717.920.2727.
If you are thinking long term, so are we!  Planning for the future, The Arc of Dauphin County will soon launch a Planned Giving program, which will allow our supporters who own a house or other real estate, who have paid up life insurance policies, or who would like to contribute to a trust or an Arc Endowment, as well as many other planned gift vehicles, to think long term with us.  Did you know without proper planning, the largest benefactor of your estate will be Uncle Sam?  Many planned gifts pass outside of probate from you to your loved ones and other beneficiaries, such as The Arc of Dauphin County.  For a confidential consultation, please e-mail Craig George at  or call the main switchboard at 717.920.2727.
