Red Ribbon Week

Free Youth Expert Panel Event at Desert Mntn HS
Monday, Oct 29th, 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Please join us for an informative evening as we hear from experts in the field on topics of substance use & abuse, including marijuana and misuse of prescription medication. Information about various drug trends, risk & protective factors, adverse health effects, and the correlation between substance use and suicide risk. You will also hear about the day in the life of an emerging adult in recovery from substance abuse.   You and your teen will not want to miss this informative and inspiring event - there will also be a raffle drawing for prizes and light refreshments available!  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Mandy at  aturner@susd.org .

Join  Not My Kid which will also focus on issues relating to substance abuse that affect students. This is always an eye-opening presentation that parents are glad they attended. You won't regret attending!
MC Auditions

MC auditions for the upcoming assembly are during the week of October 29th, starting on Monday. The sign up sheet as well as the interviews while be in Ms.Munn's room 5606. Please bring theme ideas and fun games. Interviews will be during lunch.
AHS Financial Aid Night
October 29th, 6:00 pm, Mt Olympus
We will be having a Financial Aid Night hosted by our friends in the Financial Aid office at ASU. While they are from ASU, they are here to give a general presentation explaining how the FAFSA and Financial Aid works at colleges and the benefit of completing the FAFSA. This is beneficial for all, not just those planning on attending ASU. Last year the presentation was extremely informative and the feedback I received back from parents and families was incredibly positive. While it is not required to sign up in order to attend, I am asking that you do so we know how many people to expect. Please sign up on your  Naviance account, or send me an email. This event is open for all students and families.

There is a senior meeting presented by Balfour and Ms. Reddy on Wednesday October 31st. The meeting is in the auditorium starting at 2nd period. The 31st is an early release day, 2nd period begins at 8:31.

Arcadia PTO will be hosting a Teen Suicide and Depression Prevention program, put on by Teen Lifeline.  Reservations are required due to the program being unable to accept more than 35 attendees.  PTO is working with them to see if we can accommodate more and will update as we are able.

Swim and Dive had a great time celebrating their seniors at their last home meet last week with a really fun team dinner at Flower Child afterwards!  There were a lot of solid performances at the District meet on Saturday.  Next Saturday will be the last Invitational before State!

All students must be cleared PRIOR to tryouts through Toni Burdette in the main office. This includes registering through  registermyathlete.com  and having a physical performed. No player will be allowed to try out unless they have the proper paperwork from Toni Burdette confirming they are permitted to participate.

SUSD Math Curriculum Review
October 15 - December 17th
Mondays thru Fridays, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

The SUSD PreK-12 Math Adoption Committee has created scoring rubrics, screened submissions and comprehensively evaluated many programs over the last several months. The committee is now in the final phases and will be hearing from select publishers on November 1, 2018. Visit the Mohave Annex to access the final programs and provide your feedback to the committee.
SUSD talks rebuilding amid shrinking student enrollment
Scottsdale's schools have about 4,800 fewer students than its 27,214-student peak in 2002 and are projected to shrink further over the next decade.
The Scottsdale Unified School District has enrolled just more than 22,000 students this school year and the count is projected to dip to just more than 20,000 in 2026, an Applied Economics enrollment study projects. READ MORE >>
Arizona settles claims against school district regarding procurement code
The state of Arizona's civil  claims against the governing board of the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) pertaining to the selection of construction managers for projects at two local schools have been settled, according to state Attorney General Mark Brnovich.  READ MORE >>
SUSD will save Navajo, rebuild Cherokee schools
Scottsdale will use insurance money to repair Navajo Elementary, where a fire broke out two months ago and forced students and teachers to move to a nearby campus.
The school board's decision on Tuesday to repair the school near Camelback and Pima roads comes despite the school's low enrollment. Navajo enrolls 344 students, making it one of the district's smallest K-5 schools.  READ MORE >>
