Arcadia sports teams help families with cancer this holiday season
Bryce Nixon, Arcadia senior, organized an Arcadia  Youth Athletic Group Challenge to help children who are battling cancer (through Phoenix Children's Hospital). The goal was to have Arcadia sports teams adopt a family for the holidays. Adopting a family consisted of buying each member of the family a warm outfit along with grocery gift cards and items from the family's wish list.  We received amazing response and support from our Athletic Director, Cher Fesenmaier, and the following Arcadia sport teams:   Boy's and Girl's Basketball, Boy's and Girl's Soccer,  Swim and Dive, Cross Country/Track and Boys Baseball.  In total, we collected over 95 items and raised $2400 dollars. My vision is to grow the event by having all the sports teams participate next year and maybe even challenge other schools in the district.

The Boys soccer team kicked off their regular season last Wednesday at home against Campo Verde, one of last year's State Finalists. Both the Varsity and JV teams played tough, but came out on the losing end. JV Coach Gabriele had these comments on the JV's loss: "Despite having only 3 subs (and no subs due to injury for 15 minutes of second half), JV played very well.  We fought back from being down 0-2 and tied it 2-2.  Then, our players got tired due to lack of subs and lost 2-4.  It was a hard fought game.  I am very proud of how we didn't give up at all.  Goals were scored by freshman Antonio Clarke and our junior international exchange student, Tákuma Fujiya. The Titans were back in action on Tuesday at Deer Valley. Results will be reported next week.

Adopt A Family/Phoenix Children's Hospital Holiday Project:  The Boys Soccer team, together with the Girls team, adopted a family for the holidays whose son is fighting cancer at Phoenix Children's hospital.  The family is faced with medical bills and hard times financially in addition to their son's serious illness.  Adopting a PCH family was an all athletic challenge presented to the Arcadia Sports Teams. Thanks to all of the Boys Soccer players & their families who assisted with this project and helped brighten the holidays for this family in need. WAY TO GO TITANS!   READ MORE >>
