This week is Hoopcoming week at Arcadia. We do NOT have a dance for this or really any outside events, but we do have an assembly Friday and dress up days Monday - Friday.

Arcadia Students Exhibit
As part of the Scottsdale Arts ARTrageous Gala, the advanced photography class led by teacher Nissa Kubly, took part in an art exhibition titled "In Search of Beauty".
Inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, the students hiked into the Arizona desert to take photos to be showcased for this premier event.
Their collaborative works can be seen from now until February 18th at the Young@ART Gallery in the Scottsdale Performing Arts Building.  Congratulations to Nissa Kubly and all the participating students: Brennan Raboin, Kristen Astiazaran, Emilee H Steagall, Makalia Kaufman, Avery Moric, Jade Smith, and Hadley Sossamon
La La Land Promposal Makes People Magazine #5 "Viral Moment of the Year"
Jacob Staudenmaier's La La Land Promposal, where he asked Oscar Award winner Emma Stone to the Arcadia Prom last spring, is featured in the December 18, 2017 "People" magazine as No. 5 for the Top 10 Viral Moments of 2017. The video, which re-created the movie's big opening LA traffic jam number in the Arcadia High School parking lot, had over 1 million views on YouTube in just 5 days and several million hits and retweets on Twitter. Multiple Arcadia students were involved in the undertaking under the supervision and assistance of Arcadia Film Instructor, Eric Luse.

Win over Deer Valley: The Boys soccer team traveled  to Deer Valley last Tuesday and grabbed big wins. The Varsity earned a 3-0 shut out with goals scored by Seniors Jack Spier and Sebastian Gutierrez and sophomore Tony Silva. The JV were similarly victorious with a 6-3 win. Sophomore Will Clayton scored a hat trick with three goals. Other goals were added by Victor Roca, Jonathan Guevara, and Antonio Clarke. JV Coach Gabriele commented that his players had a "g ood effort against a much larger, more physical team.  Team is getting better, and working well together."

Speech & Debate
Thank all of our community for coming together to help with the Division II Winter Trophy Tournament.  There were over 300 students and coaches on campus Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd.  It took many people to make this event possible.  We need to give a loud shout out to AHS PTO, Mr. Degroote, Rita's Italian, Safeway's bakery, Einstein's Bagels, and Chick-fil-A for helping us feed the 100+ judges.  READ MORE >>

SUSD School Board Moves Public Comment Down Agenda at Meetings
The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board will be trying a new agenda order for their monthly board meetings - mostly, moving the public comment and discussion items portions.  During a Thursday, Dec. 7 special meeting, the Governing Board discussed making a revision to their board policy pertaining to agendas.   READ MORE >>

Change Comes to SUSD Schools & Investigation by Arizona Attorney General
Change is coming to Scottsdale's public schools.
Voters in the district approved a $229 million overhaul in 2016. But as the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) has rolled out their plans, some of the same members of the community who supported the project began raising objections. After months of contention between the community and the district administrators, the district has hired outside attorneys to look into whether they followed proper procurement practices, and state investigators are looking into the matter as well.   READ MORE >>
