Many students and parents have questions about which tests to take and when to take them. Are the tests still being offered now? Are colleges still requiring the tests to determine scholarships? Linda Edgar is always happy to answer questions about the testing process. During the pandemic Linda is offering tutoring and test preparation online using the interactive Zoom platform. Students can prepare for the tests by signing up for group courses or scheduling individual tutoring sessions. The next small group courses for the SAT and PSAT begins Saturday October 10th. The current course schedule and registration forms are available on the website www.LindaEdgarTutorandSATprep.com.   Just click on SAT or ACT links from the home page. You can also request enrollment information  by emailing Linda at [email protected].

Linda Edgar has been successfully tutoring students in grades 1-12 and preparing students for the PSAT, SAT and ACT for over 25 years. Linda is a certified teacher and graduate of Northern Arizona University. The programs she offers include diagnostic placement testing for Reading and Math, individualized programs to re-teach skills, preparation for high school entrance exams, and enrichment programs. Linda also offers tutoring for students in grades 1-12 for assistance with homework and preparing for classroom tests. Tutoring is conveniently offered online using the zoom platform with interactive whiteboard.

SUSD Return to Learn for High School *UPDATE*
Return to Learn Commitment Forms were due back at noon on 9/30. If you did not return a form, then your student is automatically signed up for IN PERSON.  Please contact the [email protected] for any questions.

Time Schedule Changes
Whether you chose IN PERSON or EDL, your schedule will be adjusted. The exact start/end times of classes has not been announced.  Please be sure to read ALL emails from Arcadia Administration over the next week.
  • Daily schedules will remain the same as now. There will only be 3 classes per day.

  • Grab & Go lunches are available for students.

  • IN PERSON students will only be on campus in the morning, with ASYNC classes in the afternoon from home.
  • EDL students will have ASYNC classes in the morning, with SYNC classes in the afternoon with their teachers.
Reminders for when In Person Class Resumes

Feel Sick? Stay Home!  - from the school nurse
When on campus school begins, please do not send your student to school with headache, fever over 100 degrees, runny nose, congestion, sore throat, chills, aches, diarrhea, lost of taste or smell, chest pain or pressure, cough, nausea or vomiting. If your student comes to school with these symptoms your student will be sent home. Please have updated emergency contacts information on your student's account.

Masks Required
In anticipation of school campuses opening once the metrics indicate it is safe to do so, families will need to have a supply of masks on hand for their student(s). ADHS is offering a package of free masks. To see if you qualify and to place an order for your household, click here.  Please get your student accustomed to wearing a mask all day as this will be a mandated requirement when we do return in person.  Masks must be fitted and not have valves, and gaiters and scarves are not allowed.

Student Drop off / Pick up
- Do not drop students off in the front parking lot -
- After passing the front parking lot, please create two lines of traffic -
We thank you for being courteous drivers. We understand it's a stressful 15 minutes. It's important to keep students safe as they walk from cars & the parking lot.

Student Parking When School Returns In Person
- Do not park in Safeway parking lot. Students WILL BE TOWED -
Please remind students to park legally and safely in the surrounding neighborhood. We strive to be good neighbors, and we rely on parents to help their students understand what it means to be courteous and safe drivers/parkers.
Nurse's Corner

MEDICATION DROP OFF

If your student needs to have prescription medication or over the counter medicines stored  in our health office please sign up to bring them with the link below.

This week we have scheduled times during our office hours to take care of this task as you must have an appointment to be on campus.   For new parents to Arcadia high, we do not allow students to carry prescription medication or OTC medication on their person.  Any medication used including Tums, Advil, Tylenol, etc etc  would need to be stored in the health office.

If you are not available this week, or the times allocated do not work for you, please contact us at [email protected] with THREE times that work for you and we will attempt to accomodate.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4EA9A72D6-medication

BIKE AND SKATEBOARD RACKS
We have heard that some parents were looking at alternate transportation for on campus learning.   Please know that Arcadia high school does have bike racks and SKATE BOARD racks for students to secure these items.  The skateboard racks are near the nurse gate for those that were not aware.

COVID-19
Please remember that students are expected to have their masks on as they enter the campus, via on foot, bikes, skateboards, vehicles.  Please supply your student with extra masks and hand sanitizer for their benefit.  There will be hand sanitizer and hand washing stations, but it might be more convenient to have their own as well.  Please remember to check your students symptoms before they come to campus.  Any signs of illness will be sent to the health office for them to be picked up within the hour.

Once we receive notice that a student in our community has tested positive, you will be notified of a positive case and contact tracing will be initiated.  With contact tracing, the students that possibly will be affected by this information, will be personally notified and a possible 14 day quarantine will be implemented for that student depending on circumstances. No personal identifying information will be released to the public and students classes will have permanent seating arrangements to better assist with this tracing.

Please note that if your student comes into contact with someone in your home or in their circle to kindly notify us of this information.  We are working with the Maricopa County of Public Health but it is helpful to keep our students safe as well for us to get ahead of this.  Depending on the circumstances, your student might be subject to a 14 day quarantine and will not be allowed on campus until that quarantine has been completed.  As of right now, your student would transition into the EDL

IMMUNIZATION IMPORTANCE
We still have roughly 40 plus students that have not yet turned in updated immunization records.  Your student's account will be flagged and your student will be sent to the office for you to pick them up. We are aware that this might cause an inconvenience, but this is a Maricopa county law.  If you are in need of a location that gives free immunizations please reach out to [email protected].  If there is an exemption, it must be filled out and returned as soon as possible.

At the end of the day we want all of our students and staff to be safe so we ask for your patience as we venture into this new frontier of handling logistics in our school.
Your nurses, Dorcas and Amy

A Message from the Athletic Director, Shawn Gatson
Greetings community we are excited to begin our fall athletic seasons here at Arcadia High School. It is our goal to provide the best atmosphere for High School athletics and you play a big role in doing that.  This year has been extremely difficult as we navigate through uncharted territory.  The pandemic has had a major affect on the athletic world not only for the athletes, but the parents as well.  Due to COVID -19 SUSD will be significantly limiting spectators for the safety of our players, coaches, staff, and stakeholders.   To allow our families and communities enjoy our athletic events we have partnered with the NFHS network to live stream games in the main gyms and on the football fields.  This will allow for people to watch from home or on a mobile device rather than from in the stands. Please do not park in the neighborhoods and watch the game from outside of the stadium.  This causes unnecessary conflicts with our neighbors and has turned into a safety concern.  Thank you for your support of Arcadia Athletics.
