History and Archaeology After the Flood
An exact
landing place for the Ark
is not specified by the Bible
. Rather it indicates a large region as the mountains (plural) of Ararat. The region includes much of eastern part of modern
Turkey and there are many significant mountains there. Mount Ararat itself is a volcanic mountain that has pushed up through rock layers YEC geologists consider to be late Flood deposits. Thus most discount Mount Ararat itself to be the landing place. In the July issue of
Acts and Facts
geologist Dr. Tim Clarey suggests that there are multiple places along the Kagizman Ridge running across the eastern part of Turkey that could be potential landing locations, see his article
here
.
(In the same issue physicist Dr. Jake Hebert explains his five favorite reasons for taking a YEC position as a scientist
here
.)
For the eight that survived the Flood there was an immediate need for food and shelter and farmable land. The river systems associated with the Euphrates and the Tigris would naturally lead them toward the eastern part of the fertile crescent. Indeed that is where the earliest civilizations appeared. But evidence of a substantial civilization with
just one language has not become clear. While civilization appears rather suddenly, there are multiple languages as one would expect after the Babel event. So there seems to be an unresolved gap.
The archaeological community is split on the use of radiocarbon C-14 dating. Prior to 1400 BC there is an substantial difference between C-14 and other dating methods. Some say that C-14 is strong physical science and must be followed over anything else. Others, often older archaeologist, trust a concordance of other methods. Of course all of the conventional archaeologists are in complete denial of any event like the Genesis Flood. Perhaps that denial is a root cause of the C-14 discrepancy and some other archaeological contradictions.
The conventional archaeologist must fit the evidence they find into an evolutionary framework. That leads to the conclusion that mankind evolved from some ape like common ancestor over the last two million years or so. Much of that time included numerous off and on ice ages which ended about eleven thousand years ago. In the warming climate these hunter-gatherers began to flourish, learned to cultivate plants and farm, trade more widely and build civilizations.
Creationists should remember that the eight who got off the Ark had knowledge of the preflood world that is difficult
for us to imagine. They had a variety of skills needed to carry on a secure and productive life. With God's inspiration they developed all of the knowledge and skills needed to build the Ark and survive the coming judgement. They also had knowledge of the evil that was going on in relationship among human kind and also with beings apparently from the fallen angelic world which is briefly mentioned in Genesis Ch 6. Could memories of these beings embellished over time be responsible for the variety of gods and worship among ancient civilizations? Speculation here is treacherous so we must tread carefully. But there are likely some connections to be found and clarified.
On August 8th GHCA will present a lecture by creationist archaeologist Dr. Doug Petrovitch. Dr. Petrovitch is committed to a scholarly approach to archaeology that recognizes the physical and
Biblical evidence for the role of God in the history of the world. This first lecture is titled History and Archaeology after the Flood and was recorded at the Is Genesis History Conference in June 2017. As always we will stop at appropriate points and invite questions and discussion.
This is the first in a series on Biblical vs secular archaeology. Dr. Petrovitch will help us untangle some of the evidence and reveal more of the truth. Don't miss any part of this series. It will be an exciting adventure in learning that I am sure will greatly expand our knowledge and build our faith as honor God and His Creation.

Examples of Important YEC Scientific Evidences
Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
- Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
- For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record. So, the entire fossil record is less than 100,000 years old.
- The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
- In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the galactic motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all standard science are many assumptions that may be quite incorrect. At the top is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we are taught to assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.
There is more about the role of assumptions in science found on our website here. There are many more resources on young earth and young universe evidences here.
