A Message from Father Cavara
Dear Carroll Community,

It’s hard to believe Advent is already upon us. It seems like only yesterday I was in training camp preparing for another great year with our football team. In a way that is exactly what Advent is for us. It’s a time of preparation and training for us. Instead of preparing for a game, however, we are preparing our hearts and minds to welcome our savior. During this season we are inundated with so many things that we can lose sight of what Christmas is truly about. We keep putting off that work that is required to have a real relationship with Christ. We do not want to catch ourselves saying “Advent is over already?” We have also heard the old adage “Keep Christ in Christmas” again and again but it is really important to keep that in mind during this Holy time. We need to take true advantage of this season of Advent so that we can properly welcome “Emmanuel” into our lives. We can’t keep putting the work of our faith off and expect to welcome Christ on Christmas Eve. As coaches we always tell our players that we “practice like we play and we play like we practice.” There should be no difference in our effort whether it’s a Tuesday afternoon practice or Friday night game. The same holds true for our faith. We must practice it on Tuesday as if it is a Sunday and vice versa. We must go to mass as if every Sunday is Christmas and Easter. Therefore We should “pray what we practice and practice what we pray.” May God bless you during this holy season of Advent.
God Bless!
Father Mark Cavara

Experience of Kairos 100 - Julia DiRita '20 & Andres Moreno '20

Julia DiRita:
"When I first heard about the Kairos retreat from fellow classmates and friends who have gone on it, all they said was how amazing and life-changing the whole experience was. I knew I had to experience this retreat for myself, so I signed up for the October Kairos, which was K100. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but without giving anything away I completely understand why everyone loves kairos. Throughout the retreat, I got the chance to create friendships with people I didn’t know well, strengthen my relationship with God, and change my perspective on life. So to all of the skeptics out there deciding whether they should go on Kairos or not, go! You will not regret it!"
Andres Moreno:
"Kairos, adapted from the Greek means 'God's Time' and it truly was that. This was my second Kairos (being a leader) and it was still as fulfilling as Kairos 99. Throughout the whole retreat, I saw people get the chance to create friendships with people who they didn’t know well, strengthen their relationship with God, and change their perspective on life. This in turn, made me also change my ways ,to not only become a better Christian, but also grow as a person through these special bonds with people. I highly recommend everyone go Kairos! You won’t be disappointed!"
Catholic Athletes for Christ
Written by: Chris Long '20, Varsity Boys' Basketball Player
Catholic Athletes for Christ are a group of student athletes from all classes that come together every other Tuesday at their lunch period to discuss how athletes need to put God first and how He affects our everyday lives. At the beginning of every meeting, a student is picked to address the rules for CAC and make a custom prayer for the day. After our prayer, we enjoy pizza and Mr. Larry Meigs, our adult & club leader shows us a video about an athlete who may have had to overcome adversity and achieved greatness through Christ. Next, the group talks more about how the lessons in the video could be applied in their life and more ways to keep Christ close to them. In conclusion to the gathering, Mr. Meigs ends with a prayer and students are able to apply the lessons of the day to their regular routines and are most importantly able to grow in their spirituality. If interested, please ask Father Speziale for more details and come enjoy our spiritual talks and pizza!
Thanksgiving and Christmas Drive
Archbishop Carroll donated 162 Thanksgiving meals to needy families from our feeder Catholic parishes in the area. We raised over $4100 in all of the theology classes for the Thanksgiving Drive!

We have currently adopted 32 needy children to provide toys for them from their wish list this Christmas. We are in the middle of our Christmas Drive, which we raise the money in English classes. We will then shop, wrap, & deliver the gifts to the families next week in preparation for Christmas!
