Mr. Dave Mueller
It was great to welcome students to the first class day today. We began with spirit!
- Rocket Man, Student Council, and I greeted arriving students with breakfast goodies in the courtyard.
- The Band, Cheerleaders, Hope Squad, and Student Council revved up spirit during our opening assembly in the gym. Returning students received the 2018-19 yearbook.
In my opening prayer and message I shared this good news:
- Our Catholic faith emphasizes that God is love.
- We are made in God's image and likeness, so God has created us to love and care for each other.
- We need to support each other day by day: compliment, include, assist. We need to be careful not to belittle or exclude.
- Jesus says, "I came so they might have life and have it more abundantly." (John 10:10) The more we care for each other, the more abundant our life will be. Let's make McNicholas a beacon of caring community and abundant life so bright that it outshines the water tower beacon and draws people to want to join us.
School photo day--Tomorrow, Thursday, August 22
Lifetouch photos will be on campus Thursday, August 22, to take school photos. All students must be photographed for ID and record purposes.
Please click here for more information if you would like to order photos.
- Students must wear uniform bottoms on school picture day.
- Students may wear a McNick appropriate top of their choosing that is consistent with the Catholic values of the school. "Business casual" is a good guideline. Appropriate attire includes collared shirts and dress shirts. Inappropriate apparel includes halter tops, tank tops, sleeveless tops, midriff tops, spaghetti strap or strapless tops, revealing or mesh tops.
- Shirts and tops must be long enough to tuck (though not required to tuck) into lower garments and must have modest necklines. Tight fitting tops are not permitted.
This picture will go in the yearbook. The school may decline to use the photo if these criteria are not met. Thank you for your cooperation.
Past issues of the Wednesday school newsletter can be found on the McNicholas website under the About Us section.

Because we at Archbishop McNicholas High School are a community that prays together, we extend our gratitude to all for your many prayers as we begin the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, we extend an invitation to all to join together whenever we gather for Mass as a community.
Friday Morning Mass
Each Friday morning when school is in session (beginning this Friday, August 23rd), there will be an opportunity before the school day begins to gather in our school's chapel to welcome God's grace into our lives through the Word and in the Eucharist. Mass will begin promptly at 7:00 am and will typically conclude between 7:25 and 7:30 a.m. to allow for travel time before the school day begins at 7:40 a.m. For most of these occasions, Fr. Dave Endres, Dean of the Athenaeum/Mt. St. Mary's Seminary, will preside, and he is skilled at breaking open the meaning of the Gospel as it relates to the lives of high school students. It's a lovely opportunity to come together with other students, faculty, staff, and parents to pray together before school each Friday. Our school's chapel can be found in the westernmost part of the convent building. Please know that all are welcome and invited to attend.
Opening All-School Mass
The first all-school liturgy of the 2019-2020 school year will take place on Thursday, September 5th at 1:20 pm in the sanctuary of Guardian Angels parish, which is located directly across Beechmont Avenue from our campus. As with each of our all school liturgies, parents and family of students are always welcome to join us as your schedule permits, and we especially extend the invitation to parents of the class of 2023 as we welcome the first-year students into our community formally for the first time. Fr. Ed Smith, a 1974 alumnus of McNicholas and the pastor of Our Lord Christ the King parish, will preside.
McNick Study/Travel Abroad Italy and Greece Trip
This past academic year, a group of McNicholas students became global scholars as they studied in preparation for a unique study abroad experience in Italy and Greece. The students studied Italian and Greek art and architecture, cultures, customs and a bit of the languages from countries they planned to visit. By the time the students arrived at the airport in June--some flying for the very first time--they had a year's worth of preparation packed up with them. Throughout the year and their experience abroad, all the students gained more confidence and a sense of empowerment to navigate whatever comes next.
